I live in Carrollton, GA but I'm from MN. My father started fishing for Muskies in 1967. In 1991 he moved to Cass Lake, MN and he was a guide there. We caught and released only, because the Muskie was the last game fish to spawn. He was a member of Muskies Inc. Ha passed away in Aug. 2015. We placed his ashes on one of his Muskie rock piles on Cass Lake. In 2021 I'll be back home to MN and try to live out his dreams of Muskie fishing my self. Semper Fi Dad!!!

I learned in WI, where I live now, even though I grew up in MN. My Uncle John had a cabin on Bone Lake, by Luck, WI, and later one on Wood lake, by Grantsburg, WI. My Dad learned from him about the time I was born (1963), I stared at @5. I have fish muskies all over MN, too; MilleLacs, Winnie, Leech, and some in the Metro area...Johanna, Josephine, Rebecca, White Bear, Bald Eagle, Gervais, Keller, still haven't fished Lake of the Woods, though. (Walleye or Muskie)
That's cool, putting his ashes on a favorite spot. I'm surprised my Uncle John didn't want his to be dropped off the island on Bone....he pulled many a Musky out of there. We ate them back then; when I was a small kid. When I was about 2, My Aunt Marilyn was cooking some muskie in the stove at the Bone Lake cabin, and I turned it into 'blackened Muskie" by me opening the oven door too see if it was done. From what I was told, I lost my eyebrows temorarily (not for the last time in my life) and I couldn't sit down for a while from the spankin'. They would cook muskie by wrapping the fillet in grocery bag strips (PAPER ONES, for you young'ns) and cook at 500 deg. to pull the oil from the meat. (Works for lake trout, too) I just let 'em go myself. I usually keep any Northerns I catch while going for 'freshwater barracuda."
Here's my Dad's (and for the past 20 years mine) muskie rod and reel all rigged with my favorite bait; A big a$$ Daredevle. I posted this in another thread earlier:

My Dad was Ted Roos. He won the Muskies Inc. Tournament four times! He lived on Buck Lake, there was a small channel attached to Cass Lake in MN. He moved from Wadena to Cass Lake in 1991 and stayed there until 2012. He lived and breathed Muskies!! He was a staunch believer in catch and release for all Muskies! I have to stay in Carrollton, GA until 2021, but I will go back to MN when my daughter graduates from college. I think I'll get a place near Huntersville State Forest. I finally caught and released my first Muskie in June 1997 in Lake of the Woods, Canada. Semper Fidelis!!

I was downstairs putting away my son's baby book (he's 19-had it out for SSN number for a job) and found this pic of my uncle, John Favour, @1964 or 5, with the 49.5 lb. Muskie he got at Bone Lake, WI. I remember that one starting at me in their basement every time I was over, plus a laker and another muskie from Ontario.

I have had a couple that size follow a few times, but never hooked one that big!
Sorry about it being upside down-it was right side up in the file on my computer.......

Yes, I've heard the name before. I remember "Muskie Mike" O'Brien talking about him.

I live in MN, went up to red lake 2 weekends ago and caught a really nice northern. Although not a muskie still a very nice fish. It was 36 inches. So not a huge northern lol. Now im trying to get all my ice fishing gear ready. Hopefully gonna go back up to red lake. Lots of walleye and northern. But i gotta get a start with my.lure business to get ahead before spring hits. Just a few months away :p.
