I think the Milsurp Bubble is Leaking

Post by capt14k »

Not going to say it has burst yet but it is well on its way.

M/39 Sky Matching bolt $505. If the magazine was matching I would have stayed in past $500 and probably gone to $600. I'm surprised it only went to $505.

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/655352997

I've seen a couple matching Brazilian 1908 Mausers only fetch just over $400 one of them was on a grey blanket.

Was bidding on an all matching K98k Kreiegsmarine yesterday and price only got to $1,900 only because the buyer shill bid it there. There were only 2 legit bidders me and another guy from the K98kforum, which is where the seller bought the rifle for $3,000. The winning bidder was the seller.

Back to back 1944 Tikka Round Receiver Unissued sold for $300 & $350.

Yes there are a couple sellers getting crazy money who have a following but prices seem to have cooled down drastically.

It's not one. I think I mentioned half a dozen.

Here is another Tikka 91/30 1944 round sold for $370

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/656009006

I sold a 1944 Tikka Hex for $665 a little over a month ago.

Seen Tikka Rounds go for $1,000 which was an outlier, but they were always above $600.

I have noticed a drop off from a year ago in regards to the M39's. Now the Swiss K31's are going for outrageous $$.

Couple years back I bought a New York State Guard 50/70 Remington rolling block carbine in solid firing condition for $325 or $350, I forget. This model is unique to New York State in that it has design features only found on these rifles and carbines, and only around 2000 carbines were made total. Should have been a $2000+ item in it's condition, or any condition, yet in the middle of the gun price hike craze I got it on the cheap. Not the first time that's happened to me, quite a few times actually. That's because I am a collector not a casual gun buyer, I hunt these things all the time so it's inevitable good deals will come my way. Why you think I wouldn't pay todays market for anything? I didn't pay yesterdays market for stuff back in the day and yet I ended up with a sizable collection. Shit comes your way and at your price if you just wait for it. Or better yet don't look for it at all, hide your cash and pretend your broke, then everything comes your way at once.

No, the bubble ain't leaking, you just got lucky, now just try and figure out what good luck charm was responsible.

Run a search on gunbroker completed items for word Finnish. Other than 3 sellers prices have really dropped off in the last month. Those 3 sellers get top dollar for pretty much everything. Then search Mausers they too have dropped in price except for a few outliers.

When searching you have to ignore the $7,000 Swedish Sniper with the NR winner and the second place bidder having multiple positive feedbacks from the seller. Look instead at the couple that sold last week for $2,500 complete. In other words there is a lot of shillery on gunbroker.

Like I also stated it may just be leaking, but the Milsurp market is over due for a correction and when corrections don't happen crashes do.

I didn't buy the Sky for $505 I wouldn't pay more than $500 and it was non matching magazine I would only buy all matching.

I feel the Swiss Rifles have always been undervalued. More than once I read it would cost $1,000 to build a K31 today. The Swedish Rifles too. I think their prices were kept down due to lack of history but as more people are participating military competition shoots their value is being realized.

I have just about sold all I plan on selling. Hopefully I can use a correction to add to my collection.

The prices on the first page of GB for 91/30 Mosins are $ 310-330., Ridiculous. The deals are there if you look thru all 5 pages if you see something like Mosen Nugget Russian carbine made 1952.

Spoiled, years of artificially low prices caused by a sudden market glut of Mosins have everyone forgetting that the rifle is worth at least $300. Pretty much any .30 centerfire rifle in good shooting condition is worth that. Everyone forgets, or wasn't around to know what milsurp collecting was like before 1986 when nothing was coming in or had since 1968. A world of sporterized junk, expensive as all hell US milsurps, little to no selection. The market absorbed the excess, now prices are stabilizing to a level more reflective of the rifles value, it only took around 18 or so years. The Mosins built like a brick shithouse, it's fought multiple wars and will still function for your lifetime and beyond, it's cartridge will drop any game in North America, even the largest bears if the shots are placed properly. You can beat the crap out of it and it will still function, it will survive mistreatment that would sideline sporting rifles costing three times as much. Best of all at $300+ we will have fewer douchebags hacking on them trying to turn it in to some facsimile of a piece of shit sporter.

It's also possible people just aren't spending $$$ on guns & ammo right now. Supply & demand... And my feeling is demand is down for guns & ammo in general.

I think people are tapped out, Too many folks out there have high debt, no disposable income & are just eaking by.

I also agree with this. It also too quickly got to the point of not affordable for younger collectors. If they have no entry point to Milsurps they move on. This naturally leads to less demand and lower prices.

If you have a C&R the best bet is SOG, you can buy a Mosin Nagant rifle from $229.00 up to Tula hex for $289.00. I have sold 6 ex Dragoons and 3 Tulas in the last week we got from them, retail for around $350.00. Ain't no bubbles in Ohio.

What I am seeing is a lot of folks suddenly getting the prepping disease, quietly stockpiling freeze dried foods to go with all the guns and ammo they bought over the last few years. I have been getting questions about this from unexpected sources, some of the same ones who quietly asked me about what gun they should buy. It isn't just the Unabomber types living in a back woods shack wearing a tin foil hat screaming about the end of all things anymore. The general public is starting to seriously worry about how things are going in the world and beginning to realize that one day they may be on their own. I tell them to buy in bulk, stack it deep, and shut the fuck up about it. They are not spending on guns because they have one already, or more than one, now they are sending orders to Mountain House foods, and Sportsmans guide for survival gear. There are people who bought Mosins because it was an affordable firearm that ammo is available for, they could care less about it's history, only how well it can shoot and how big a hole it makes for when the bad thing comes calling.

Nothing wrong with being prepared but where I am in NJ I'm better off having plenty of guns and ammo. If the SHTF my plan is to just take what the Anti-Gun Liberals have. Plenty of them around me to keep myself, my family, and the platoon I will arm fed for years.

Get your own food and shit. That way you don't have to kill your neighbor who are just trying to feed their family (probably with children in it) with his food. Having a gun in the end does not change the law. Are you talking about theft and murder?

It was a joke towards Antis regarding a SHTF situation. Not everything need be so serious all the time. Does it?

Yes to clarify it was a joke. I thought the platoon part gave it away.. I don't know how to add the emojis in tapatalk. That is one drawback to tapatalk. I see :chuckles or ;mywink I miss out on seeing the emojis.

Knot for me. I assumed you were watching too much Walking Dead or something. Some people are like that .... and flat serious about it. Good to know that is not the case here!!! (notice the knot?)

I've actually never seen The Walking Dead. I understand it is very good. Maybe over the summer I will try and watch it since nothing else is on. I also have all the seasons of Breaking Bad to watch except the first one. I liked it but fell behind and never got back to watching it. I did see the first 2 seasons of Man in the High Castle which I enjoyed. I also liked 11-22-63 but it doesn't look like there will be a season 2.

Edit: Sorry posted above before your added about staying on topic.

Back on topic I am seeing M/39's starting to sit unsold. I think Classic flooded the market and only the best examples are commanding a premium while others are selling back around $400.
