Is it worth it?

Post by Fmarshall »

On these rifles is it really worth trying to clean up, fill holes , etc.. when it comes to the stock? You may need to zoom into these pics. Sorry

Don't do any of that. You will ruin the value of it.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Each dent and ding tells a story. Leave it as is. It is history.

Only if you want to halve the value and deface a historic artifact. It looks like it is supposed to look.

Thanks, that's why I got the gun. I love it's character, history, etc.. I'm new to this collecting. What's the best for me to do to preserve it. Meaning shouldI wipe it down with something occasionally? I plan on shooting it. Obviously I'll clean the inside, what's best for the outside? Thanks guys!

The less you do the better, all it needs is a nice climate controlled environment and a wipe down with oil on the metal now and then. The stock doesn't need anything.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.
