Frankford Arsenal 1942 ammo on Mauser-like stripper clips

Post by kjohn »

Stumbled on a nice lot of 30-06 ammo. 60 rounds, 10 to a pouch. On Mauser like stripper clips. Ammo is in very good condition, as are the cloth pouches and web belt.

GOOD RIDDANCE LGR!! If there isn't a gun range in heaven, then I'm going to hell.
Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA - ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State. Heinrich Himmler

That is the standard US M1903 stripper clip in wartime steel, 147 grain FMC M2 ball. I bought 10 bandoleers of similar stuff back in the day from the old Paragon sales, black tip AP stuff with a nice story about how it was found in a Normandy barn leftover from D Day, sniper ammo for the A4's and all that. Paragon was good for storys like that, there is a word to describe them, what is it now... Hmm...Oh yea, Bullshit. The Old man told me that when they were going to go up against something real tough they would be issues two of these bandoleers, only his would have had 8 round Garand clips in them. Great bit of history.

I just got some 8mm Turkish 1947 ammo on clips in a bandolier that looks pretty good, haven't tried it yet but hopefully it shoots well too !

Back during the late 1990's and early 2000's I shot maybe 8-10 thousand rounds of that stuff in everything except the semi auto's. Some of it was 1930's dated, others 40's, it all worked just fine and was being sold 2.3 cents a round in bulk, and I bought bulk. I still have a lot left. I loved the 30's stuff as it came on a nice brass three piece clip, very high quality clips that I still use today. Later on they started using the single piece clips that are on yours. This stuff is a bit on the hot side, fine for any bolt rifle except the early Commission rifles, but if you use it in a semi like the Hakim the gas system will need adjusting for it.
