The rifle comes with a ten round mag, that's high capacity to me. I have seen some of the aftermarket mags, experienced a few on friends SKS's. Crap is the word to describe them and I am being kind. The AK47 is equipped to use a fantastic 30 round detachable magazine that is nearly indestructible. If Hi-Cap is needed acquire the AK-47, any of it's clones will do, one has to work very hard to fuck up an AK-47. Avoid the AK magazine converted SKS rifles, I had one come to me as part of a deal, dropped the mag every other round, junk, pure junk, and a waste of what had been a perfectly good Chinese military SKS before it was converted.

The Chinese SKS you ordered should be good as it is. The ones I have had excepting that converted AK mag one were good, no issues.

Thanks lots, I have read other threads that suggest good and bad experiences(mostly bad) so yeah I'll leave it as is, 10 really is plenty, have no issues with my mosins or mausers being five round so 10 will be twice as much.

I have a 20 or 30 rounder for SKS that uses no mods. It is brand new. I may sell it here shortly because in California, after Jan 1st 2017, it's illegal to own a mag over 10 rounds.
The thing is, it's an infraction 9like a parking ticket) if you get caught. So, maybe I will just "loose" them somewhere.

I feel your pain, the lake bottoms here in NY are littered with magazines and rifles lost in boating accidents after the passage of the "safe" act.

The Chinese do. The original PLA 20 rounders are utterly reliable. Can't say that about the aftermarket ones, they are hit or miss.

Are you looking for the duckbill magazine or one for the model M or D? Or a fixed 20 rounder. Not sure what you're looking for. The Tapco duckbill mags work great and there may still be a few fixed 20 rounders if you're willing to pay for them

Ark Angle makes a 35 round mag that only takes one hand to release it. I have it on my Yugo and Russian sks they work well I got mine from Classic Arm. All you have to do is drop the trigger and take out the 10 round box put the trigger back in and you are good to go.

The metal 20 round w/ star on them, old new stock Chinese I think, work well. However trying to reload them with strippers is tough cause after the first ten, you have to hold the bolt in just the right place with one hand and load with the other. No real advantage there. I've not tried the interchangeable kind, and went back to the 10 rd. original on all mine.

I'm amazed you were still able to own 10 round plus in ca...obviously I'm in upstate ny also.

You can own large cap mags. You can sell one over 10 rounds, but you can keep and own the. That is until Jan 1. After that, no mag over 10 anytime. Can't even own a high cap mag even in parts.

Does the law also prohibit .22 tube fed rifles?

Ark Angle makes a 35 round mag that you can remove with one hand. I got mine from Classic Arms have use them at the range and works very well.

Have a shooting buddy that tried several types of high capacity detachable magazines for the Chinese SKS and none of them would feed reliably. I have stuck with the integral ten-round box and just load with some good quality stripper clips. I'll leave the high capacity mags for rifles that were designed for them (AK/AR) and keep my Type 56 in it's original form.
