M1 garand ammo

Post by sardog72781 »

So I think I my have made a mistake and bought some .30-06 PPU ammo. Is it safe to use in a Garand? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm new to the Garand scene. Thanks

The one that is not listed as "Garand safe" ammo.
Specs:
Cartridge: .30-06 Spring. Ammo
Bullet Weight (grains): 150
Bullet Style: Soft-Point
Muzzle Velocity (f.p.s.): 2,904
Muzzle Energy (ft.-lbs.): 2,809

The one that is listed as Garand safe ammo.
Specs:
150-grain full metal jacket bullet
New production, non-corrosive, brass-cased, boxer-primed and reloadable
Muzzle velocity: 2,723 f.p.s.
Muzzle energy: 2,499 ft.-lbs.

It's not going to blow the action up, if that's what you're asking about. That said, you don't want to make a habit of feeding it hot loads, as that will accelerate wear on parts-specifically the operating rod.

Welcome to the board, save that ammo for the M1903 you will get one day, use M2 ball spec ammo in that M1.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I'm not a reloader, but I believe the right powder is important too.
