SIG Lotta

Post by cj1964 »

A couple months ago I got a chance to buy this Finnish Lotta from a long time collector. It's a SIG stepped barrel (s/n 60xx) and appears to be in original inventory condition. It's seen some use, but the bore is pretty clean and sharp with no counter-bore! The bolt is unmarked and no other numbers match, but it's got the SA property stamp on the barrel.
The stock is obviously brand new and I suspect it was replaced just before it got the inventory tag. I don't see many Lottas with inventory tags, but the oil/grease has bled the ink into the paper so bad you can't really verify the s/n or inventory date. That's a bummer, but I think this is the real deal and just like it was when CAI imported it many years ago.
It's a nice specimen and as an extra bonus it has a bold German/Austrian marked butt plate.
FYI - the bayonet is unrelated to the rifle, but it did come with the unmarked sling.

Barrel looks original to me, they would have been unlikely to have had new M24 barrels still in stock by the end of WW2, and the receiver would have gone to an M39 had the barrel been shot out. My own M24's barrel is like new also, high levels of well trained weapons maintenance will do this.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

You got a nice one. The SIG barrels are definitely harder to come by. Thanks for sharing.

Boy that's a nice one.
On Facebook? Check out the non-sporter preservationist group at: OOOPS. Deleted by Facebook because it's evil to even discuss collectible firearms on social media these days.
