What you think of this M38?
This was just on gunbroker and had 10 bids or so... I was one of the bidders and there was 17 hours or so left... It was at $180 and the buy it now was set to $250... Looks like the buy it now button has been pushed... Did i wait to long?

I you are willing to pay 250, then you waited too long. But your first instinct was180. Usually your first decision is right. So I wouldn't get upset about it. Half the fun is the hunt. So get going.

On the other hand, they are not seen every day.

It was a good price but not something you should feel bad about. I was watching it too and chose against the 250 bin.

Number one rule in antiques-if you think you want it, buy it. Dither around and someone else will get it.

This. As long as you know what you're buying.awalker1829 wrote:Number one rule in antiques-if you think you want it, buy it. Dither around and someone else will get it.

Did you wait too long? Only you know that. If you got that sinking feeling when the BIN was pressed, then yes. Even though M-38's are becoming less common, some good deals show up from time to time. A friend of mine purchased a flawless M-38 refurb a week or so ago with 180 rounds of heavy ball for $280. He was only the second bidder on the gun. No BIN price. Just a gun everyone overlooked for some reason. So, they are out there. Rule #1 - If you really like the gun and the BIN is reasonable, don't dink around with bidding. The closer you get to the BIN price, someone will click it and poof.

for 250 it was not bad, but you did not miss on anything great. personally i am not a fan of the rough war time rush receivers. but that is just me.
Re: What you think of this M38?
You probably won't find a '38 for much less than $250.00 any more, but I think you can find plenty in that range.

Oh, the long sought after #243 Izhevsk M38, Rare and valuable, at least as much as any other 1943 M38. If it was a 1939, or a 1945, or Tula then you can head out to the garage with a stool and rope, In this case it's just an average M38 from the most common year.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I would have bought it for 250.00. Lord knows I've bought a lot of other crap for more than that. But you can put your 180.00 in your wallet tucked away till you find one for that price. Good luck

I can attest... I'm still hunting for any Tula M38. The 39 fell in my lap; On Clearance at Fleet Farm. The 45 I had to hunt for a while.
No; That M38 you missed out on is no big deal... But I do recommend you get one, a fine rifle those carbines.

Everyone I have had at shows this year has sold at the first show I believe regardless of condition for from $250 to $350 and that is in poor old WV too. Bill

Re: What you think of this M38?
I was at the State Fair show yesterday with fellow member Entropy. All we saw were a few 91/30's ranging from $199 to almost $300, A Polish M44 for $600 & a 44 Izhevsk M44 for $350. Also a beat & bubba destroyed Mosin I didn't bother to verify. And not one M38.
All I got were 2 50 cal ammo cans for $12.50 Each & some Kleanbore bore brushes for $1 each. Other than that; Nadda.
Don't worry about not getting that M38 on Auction... But if you see one you like; Buy it.

About six years ago, I passed on a Puolustuslaitos marked Sestroryetsk rifle, (didn't have a clue what it was) for $180.00 OTD because it was missing the front sight blade. Of course, when I went back the next weekend, someone smarter than me had scored it. I have stood on the stool, with the rope, several times over that one.
