Brand new to SKS..and first question

Post by DougK215 »

Hello. I was searching an online gun auction sight, and ended up with an alleged Yugo SKS for what I thought was a decent price. I haven't received the rifle yet, but as soon as I get it I want to remove that scope. I can't seem to find a factory dust cover replacement anywhere so far. Any ideas? Thanks.Image

+1 to both. I actually shot worse with the scope set-up like that than I did with the open sights! Be sure to pick up some stripper clips, much handier than single loading them.

What entropy said, I tried one of those dust cover mounts and every shot went in a different direction. 3 inch groups
were possible at 100 yards with open sights on that gun.

Doug, if you bought it to shoot you should be a happy guy. These are so much fun. You can replace that rear cover easy enough, even Ebay should turn up one but the above link is a good one.

I would love to see a group with that sight setup before you change back. Wonder if you could even hit paper at 100 yards? Do a before and after.

I'll third that. The Russian SKS my uncle gave me had one of those pieces of crap replacement covers with scope. What trash. Every shot was in a different place. He told me he never could get it to zero in and I had the same results. I was frustrated because he couldn't find the original cover at the time (took two more years before he did). While I was trying to zero it in I got frustrated and gave up. First shoot with iron was an almost dead center bulls-eye.

I hope Bubba did not do anymore than the scope. Did you get it out to the range yet?
