1891 Argentine

Post by jimpierce7 »

A friend of mine was just gifted one of these and was told it shoots 7x57. Neither he or I can find this round. 7.65, or 7.63. Any ideas?

7.65×53mm Argentine. Privi might load it, otherwise you are loading it yourself.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

The problem you run into with the 1891 rifles is the current mom available is loaded for the 1909 rifle which is a 1898 action and a lot stronger than the 1891. So be careful as you could blow the bolt right out of the 1891 it isn't as strong as the 1898 action of a 1909 Argentine. I load for my 1891 nd the Hornady load data is for it.
Hope this is helpful

Argentine 1891 does not shoot 7mm mauser. It does shoot 7.65x53 (54). I didn't have any argy within easy reach but I did test a 7mm mauser case and it will chamber. Not sure of how it will handle it. It might fire form the case or maybe worse. 7mm mauser is 7x57.

I bought a 100 rounds of 7.65 for my Argentine a while back from a friend. I heard he sold his Argentine and I bought the rest he had, 150 rounds on clips.

I've shot loads of PPU through mine without a problem. I reload for mine and my reloads make the PPU look like garbage when grouped against each other. Goes from 6+ inch group down to 3 inch group. I borrowed a friends bayonet and shot with and without it on at 100. At 100 it shoots about 6 inches high but with it mounted it shoots to POA.
