I'm looking to get a value on my '53 Romanian M44. All numbers match other than the bolt and butt plate, also, the bolt is 100% Hungarian stamped. Thinking about selling her, but need a good starting price. Thanks in advance.

If that was mine, I'd ask $1200 :bs.gif: , and not take less than $300. Really, I'd start at $350. Check Gun Broker. They are nice rifles :vcool:

You really had me with the $1200 for a second. I know it's nothing "rare", but it's no '45 Russian either... So say start at $350-$400?

The prices shown above would be for an all matching rifle. You can start there but be prepared to come down. The last all matching in good condition Romanian sold in October on Gunbroker for $250.00.

Even though '53 was an extremely low production year?

Due to it being a 53 but not matching I would start it out at around $350.

Sure it's rare... But you won't get the big $$$ unless it is mint and #'s matching. Romy's just haven't taken off with collectors even though they are on the lower side in rifles produced.

Low production year aside, I'm thinking $250 max. Non matching with a Hungarian bolt indicates refurbishment in Curik, Romania. If you are putting this up for auction, I'd start with a price of $175 and let the bidders determine the value. If you start it out at $350-$400 you won't get a bid. You didn't mention the bore. Some Romanians are like new and a lot are pretty bad. I think the only way you get $300 is with a bright, like new, bore. A bonus is the s/n on the butt stock indicating, with some level of certainty, that this is the original stock but with a different butt plate, that's up in the air.

Two ways to sell this rifle is to set a price you are willing to take. If in an auction set the minimum you are willing to take and see where the bidders take it.

I'll stick with $350 as a retail sell on a forum starting point for this one. Gunbroker I would no reserve it and start at $150.There just aren't many 53 Romys out there. Anything under $300 and I would expect it to sell rather quickly.

In todays market that's about what to expect. I searched for my 53 Romy for almost two years before I found it (At a price I could live with). They are uncommon and over time they will become more valued by collectors. Although it will probably take a while.

Yeah I thought it was a fair price. I watched at nice 1955 RO go for $400 on gunbroker a week before this 53 popped up.
