Picked up a couple cases of this stuff at camp Perry a few years back. I shoot it in my bolt action rifles then use the casings for reloading later on for the automatics.
I was playing around just to see how thick the metal had to be to stop this stuff and to my surprise to would pierce 1 1/4 inch steel like a drill press. This was using steel bars from my 20 ton press in the shop so I'm not sure of the grade but pretty tough steel. Here's a couple pictures of some 3/4 used before I doubled it.... I think the rest will go in the ground when I need more casings later on, amazing wicked stuff..

A nice hole punch. What distance were you shooting?

About 45 yards in a down hill off to the side angle while standing behind a barrier that wasn't near enough after seeing what this chit can do.
I had the plates clamped together using vice grips and then tied to an old cedar tree with wire. I was using a rather large poplar tree at first until seeing the rounds going right through. I quit this time after a few rounds and then hearing a bolt come back and hit the metal shop wall behind me.
The rest I'll take a little at a time to my range and shoot them into the ground.

Why not pull the bullets and put them up for sale, dump the powder in your garden (it's a great fertilizer), and then reload the already primed brass for your automatics? Seems a waste (but a lot of fun) to simply shoot them into the dirt. Just my .02.

Is that some of the wartime black-tip stuff?

If it's wartime then it's corrosive primed. I picked up a bunch of this stuff years back, all 1942 dated in the cloth bandoleer on '03 clips, Black tip. This should be preserved as the historical wartime artifact's they are, I consider all of mine as collectable ammunition, wartime relics, not for shooting unless things got very, very bad.

I pulled a bunch of those back when I had a .300 WIn. Mag., and loaded them on top of some potent .300 Win. Mag. loads. Turned cinder blocks into dust, whizzed thru some angle iron like a knife through hot butter. Were I a sniper in the sandbox issued a .300, I'd have use those loads. I don't think Level IV would stop it......

Yes, it's the black tip stuff of different types. I've searched some of it out through the CMP forum and shoot the rounds that are so called non corrosive. I've plenty of the regular ball type and others so I'll save this back as Jim said for collectable and hope to never see the day it's needed.

That's some 'spensive ammo you're shooting there. It's still available for sale at......$42.95 for 20 rounds.

Damn! At that price I am sitting on a nice chunk of change, and my stuff is US arsenal made, WW2 relic, on the clip and in the original bandoleer, that has to make it worth twice as much

Damn I'm no longer getting notification to threads I've subscribed to. They just stopped a few months back. I had no idea you'd posted Jim. This stuff I posted is Raufos (Norway) made under US contract for the euro allies and is 1955/56 AYR head stamped with Berdan non corrosive primers. Raufos is supposed to be good stuff but I'd suspect yours is a lot more collectible. Not to mention PackRats tends to be a little on the high side. This is probably closer to what you have. Same price.
http://www.ammogarand.com/3006-armor-pi ... 21944.html They also have the bandoleer/repack kits for $18.95

That stuff has been sealed away for many years, I can't remember if it's DM-Des Moines Ordnance Plant, or DEN -Denver Ordnance Plant, it's one or the other. 1942 dated on steel clips in typical GI cloth bandoleers. All clean stuff, the story from Paragon sales in the mid 90's was that it was from a lot of ammo found in Europe leftover from WW2 and had been in sealed cans. Intended for use in the 1903-A4 sniper, or so they claimed, but it is on '03 clips. I have another few hundred rounds of assorted collectable tracer, AP, and so on rounds kicking around. I find this stuff at flea markets and tag sales when somebody is selling " grandpas war stuff" None of this is for shooting, all of it is now collectable. Back in the 80's I bought a Great War veterans rifles and gear, with it came six sealed bandoleers of US cartridge 1918, and one cartridge belt with half a load of ammo in it, this being what he had left in it on 11 November 1918.
