They just forgot to add the /38 part when they listed it, an error that if they were selling for someone else they will never hear the end of.    :vcool:

Wow, that is so nice. One of the coolest arsenal markings (Peter the Great) and on a 91/38.

Great Mosin and great photo display. You were lucky to find one at all and especially to find one at a discount because of a wrong description.

Congrats. I remember this one but bailed out :)

The stampings on the receiver are very cool and nicely struck. Overall, very nice 91/38. From what I can tell this was a wartime M-44 stock.
The filling in the barrel band finger groove is pretty interesting.

These later year 91/38's are even harder to find than most of them. Welcome to the 91/38 PTG club  Mine's a 1916.

Thanks all!

Clarification: I stressed the mis-listing because this was yet another case where a seller was sloppy. Whoever was selling it did all right, but given how infrequently these show up, God alone knows how high it might have gone for had it been correctly listed.

The stock was fashioned as an M44 stock, but it has wood like I have not seen on a Russian M44. My own thought is that the Czechs just used a Russian M44 stock as a pattern and so included the bayonet groove. But I'm no expert on wood.

It hasn't been fired much. It has good, strong rifling and a smooth action. And a safe home!

Beautiful, got to the photo of the bolt and gave a frown.. Always just that one thing keeping a rifle from being perfect. Of course it would not have been the original bolt but still stamped numbers look good.

Nice find!

Actually, this is not unusual with M91/38s. Many of them have everything stamped but the bolt, which is EP'd. Why? Again, it's unlikely that we will ever know. If any of the other parts had not been stamped, I would have thought that odd, but an EP'd bolt? Very common.

Of 112 91/38s in my database, 76% have ep'd bolts.

Just the imprint left by tape. The odd thing is that it's on the barrel side.
