How 'bout this? A good gun show.
How 'bout this? A good gun show.
My son and I took off early this morning for a small gun show. Probably on 50 tables of guns, but a lot of decently priced milsurp rifles. Walking by a table, I spotted a common refurb 91/30, a '43 Izhevsk, and casually flipped over the tag. $99.00! My son was looking over my shoulder and he said he had never seen an old man make such a quick draw on his wallet. I didn't even bargain...
Three tables down, I found the Hungarian Princess I have been looking for. A lot of hard bargaining got it out the door for $300.00. All matching, perfect mirror bore, only a couple of small handling marks on the gorgeous stock. The import mark on this is a tiny mark between the bayonet mount and the top handguard; an older CAI from ST ALB VT. The only thing on the receiver is a nicely stamped small font serial, matching the original serial. When it rains it pours, I had seen a Hungarian of equal or better quality 100 miles apart from this one two days ago, but never before that.
Edit: I got rid of the Dragoon photo, but the program would not allow me to insert another.
(No Ironnewt, this is not the one, actually the other is nicer!)

I don't know how the Dragoon got in there. It was not that good a show.

To answer your question, three were at least ten rifles I would have been happy to take home at the asking prices. Two really interesting ones were at two different dealers, but almost identical Chinese Mausers in very good condition, I need one of them, but I couldn't pass on the M-44. I have been on vacation for the last 8 days and I have bought 6 guns, I do not think I could have explained away another purchase to my dear wife. (she has been very patient with me) One vendor had a very nice selection of WWII 1911s that got my son's interest. I also saw a pair of GEW 88s that were in good condition and not overpriced. There was also a really cherry Tula SKS, that the vendor had a $600.00 price tag on, but I did not make a pass at it. There were not a half dozen Mosins in the whole show. What was rolling out the doors of the show were black rifles, especially cheap black rifles. (I hope someone in Alabama doesn't know something I don't) I did not see any particular interest paid to the military guns and I believe that the vendors brought them there to dump them from inventory. I carried around a beautiful Voere 2150 hunting rifle in 30.06 that I wanted to sell and the only interest it generated was with a vendor who would have been happy to crook me out of it. There was your usual smattering of guys in their 60s, but the buyers were 20 and 30 something young men and the only caliber they know is .223.

Great report and thanks. Here in south Florida there are mostly modern arms and the milsurp market is an after thought. Will have to expand my horizons beyond gun broker. Congrats on a successful weekend

Very nice!
Also good to know that black rifles are the thing in Florida. I'll be moving to Florida in a few years and could use some more cheap Mosins!

Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers #29: ...if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens.

Had a nice Hungarian M44 come by our table at the gunshow yesterday, guy wanted $300 for it. It looked beautiful, Not a mark on it and a light colored stock. If I weren't saving for another gun, I might have bought it. Sure was purty
