Trailcam Deer Pics (and pigs)

Post by MeatMarket »

I set up my trailcam recently. At first I put the sensitivity too high and in a 24 hour period it took over 10,000 pics (10 per minute). Drained the battery of course, but over 600 of those caught deer and pig activity in one spot on my land in 24 hours. Here's a sample of what it saw at the turn of the month. Mostly seeing doe and spotted fawns, but a few small bucks came into view as well. A horde of wild hogs came through around midnight too. I'm hoping to see those again. Nothing like free pork! Haven't seen anything I'd shoot yet, except the pigs of course.

Lot of food walking around loose, you need to do something about that. :Drool1:

I'm going to have to reposition the cam. For the past week most of the activity has been just outside its field of view.

An AR with a can on it would net you a freezerful of pork fast!

I repositioned my cam this morning, and as I'm typing this I'm watching a large doe loiter right in front of where I had the camera.

Trailcam Deer Pics (and pigs)

Two years ago, my brother killed two hogs at once without a can. I think he was using a single shot .243 win.
EDIT: He used a Ruger .270.

Think of it a good training. You think it doesn't take skill to get close to a herd of feral hogs and take several of them out even with a can? Give it a try, you might find it a challenge, unless you just got back from doing the same thing in Afghanistan.

Not an oil can supressor. A professionaly built supressor. They are coloquially called 'cans', even more so lately since they have become more popular.

I need a can for my Axis......Mr. Song Dog bolts for the next county when you shoot without one.

Looks like you need to put it a little closer to the ground. Most of the shots have the subjects at the bottom of the frame. I recently had to put mine out. I had a chicken killed about a week or so ago and suspected either a fox or the neighbor's dogs or the Redtail hawk that's been coming awfully close. I have a Moultrie also, mine's a 990i and I have it set on HD video. I caught not only a skunk, armadillos, possums, rabbits and the neighbor's dogs but the fox too. Funny thing is the chicken was killed during the day about 2pm but I never saw the fox except at night. This is the time of the year when the lack of rain is bringing animals close to the house looking for food. I've killed 5 or 6 possum, two coons, one that walked up beside the house at 5pm in broad daylight, and a bunch of skunks. The fox has remained elusive. A buddy that traps them told me this time of year they have young, as well as a lot of other predators and they're killing anything that moves to feed them. Needless to say the chickens are on lock-down again for most of the day until evening when I can be out there on patrol to watch them. On a side note I don't need to use the cam for Deer. I can walk out at night and see them right next to the house. I know they're around.

With that many pigs the hell with the rifle, rig a claymore on the trail and wait.

I put my cam about chest high and lean it down using a small stick stuck behind it.

No deer yet. I've only got a lone scraggly looking 'yote and a coon family.
