I've been after this rifle for a long time and today I finally got my price so I paid down on it at my favorite shop. They have two more of these and both appeared to be refinished. One of those the barrel looked like had been cut back some. and the hardware was chromed or Nickel plated. I may go back eventually and take a shot at one other one they have but not for a while see if I can them down some more. Anyway I have one now that I shoot with BP and smokeless, they are sure enough a lot of fun to shoot.

Nice, I have one of the ones that didn't get refinished. This was done by the Argentine government prior to the sale of their surplus rifles. The idea was they could get more money for "nice" looking weapons

Ya, I heard about this when I got my other Roller from a guy on line a few years ago. I used that as a bargaining point to get the shop down more on the price of this one. They have two more, one I'd like to have but don't have the cash for another purchase right now. But it's not going anywhere as these are straight up roll your own for ammo. With a soft lead and about 72 grains of FFG they will shoot pretty straight. I like old rifles, looked at a Vetterli also today but I have two now and didn't feel the need for another, nice looking Swiss though.

The Vetterli was my first milsurp, I have a soft spot for them and now have eight or nine acquired over the last 35 years. The Swiss crafted that rifle more like a work of art than a soldiers tool, considering how many subcontractors made these and did an equally good job it is impressive.

I really like these. Have only handled a reproduction Pedersoli, but I was amazed at just how big these are and strongl made.

Bunky they have another one that looks pretty good if your interested I can send you a link. But you probably know where I got it anyway. As to the Vetterli JYD I do agree they sure are a nice rifle in their style. I also like the 1891 Argentine's they are well made and very pretty to look at and hold. I looked at a nice 1909 Argentine this week-end too, for the money a nice rifle.

The 1909 Argentine represents the finest work Mauser ever produced, when you find one of the unissued specimens it will amaze you that they made such a rifle for ordinary soldiers.

Sometimes Burrhead, I can't figure myself out. Depending on how I am feeling at the moment, I sometimes think I am done buying rifles unless I move one out to pay for it. Then sometimes I don't think I'll buy anything ever again. Then all the sudden I snap out of it and think I need to buy one that I don't have yet, like a Argentine or another Swiss. I ain't no better when it comes to handguns, black powder revolvers, and reloading stuff. Truth is I just need more $$, but then I would stay in trouble. [emoji14]

I am with you on this Bunky. I tell myself all the time "If I buy I'll not add another caliber" I load about 26 different cartridges now and I sure don't need another one. But I have been looking at a Jap Type 99 and hell it's only $249.95 so I am looking at what the cost would be to add one. It's just that rifle don't fit my 6'4" frame very well, now if I was 5'3" maybe.
On a happier note I am looking at a 1909 Argentine a guy I know has. He wants to do a swap and I don't know if I have anything I'd let go right now.

I don't have a problem with not buying new rifles, the problem is the flea markets seem to have run out of them.
