1924 Izhevsk Dragoon

`Acquired this one recently. My other dragoons are Finn captures. Perhaps this one came by way of the Balkans or Rumania as there are no Finn markings whatsoever, and there was no cleaning rod (I just popped in one of my spares, but it won't seat). There are no meter markings on the rear sight, only Arshins (though that is also the case with one of my Finns).

The stock is just beat to hell, again in contrast to my Finns. I'm not sure of the structural integrity for shooting purposes. The forestock was cut off at some point. This was described in the listing as a "duffle cut," but I'm not sure about that. The cut and the repair are in the pics.

It's no beauty, but like some of my other Ugly Ducklings, I like it a lot.

Import marked? Looks like a recycled Remington receiver on it. Early 20s Izhevsk rifles had issues and don't have period receivers, leading to a couple of theories why. No real way to be sure. Possibly a SCW rifle, but the butt plate serial number prefix makes me wonder if it came in another way. Interesting rifle. Keep the stock.

Not import marked.

Oh I'll definitely keep the stock! That's part of the "personality" as well as the history of the rifle. But if I'm going to shoot it, I may put it in one of my spare refurb stocks. It would be disconcerting to have the original stock come apart out on the range. The crack at the bottom of the wrist is on both sides, and I can't tell if any work was done. That black streak in the one pic is paint or old tar or something. It's not a repair.

I hadn't thought about SCW. I did have the butt plate off, and there are no markings underneath. But I suppose it's possible.

I am leaning towards SCW origin also. I have the same rifle but serial # 29442, like yours total mismatch and no import marks.

When I saw the handguard I immediately thought SCW also. At any rate I like it alot. Looks like a real keeper.
