My First M59

Post by SKhiSm 59-66 »

I wanted to share this M59 I picked up last week. It had kind of an offbeat title in the listing and ended on Monday afternoon, I think those 2 things combined to cause it to be overlooked by many. I had no competition for it and sniped it for starting money, bidding once about 18 minutes before the auction ended. 339 $ to purchase and 401 $ to get it in the front door. It's everything I was looking for in an M59, except maybe if the "C" was a "B" or if the barrel was a couple inches longer. :D

These pics are not my best work I will replace them asap, it had already been raining for a day when I picked it up and soon as I can get caught up with post-winter tasks I will get some good outdoor pics. The more I look it over the more I like it.

Since I could find no import stamp on the sellers pics, I was expecting Samco under the barrel, but found TG Knox. there instead. I don't have the best handle on import batches but I think maybe these were on the early side, so it's likely been in the US for a while ?

Stock and handguard wood don't match

When I first spotted it, I thought this was carved and my head nearly exploded, I knew it was no Honor Guard or such, just thought it was really good trench art but I'm not sure an acrylic sticker qualifies as such, but still cool and clearly has been there a while.

The bore was better than I was expecting and the action doesn't seem to have excessive wear...

I will say, I got a surprise when I pulled the gas tube, at first I thought the gas piston was a US replacement part, but found a TK EP'd on the shaft, so it's Yugo origin but looks like it has done no work at all. Since refurb I guess (?) since this dude has clearly seen time in the field.

The stock and receiver #'s match, the rest is mis-matched although EP'd numbers on this-n-that might match, I haven't taken it from the stock yet. Buttplate, mag and top cover are the typical part #'s, trigger group is mis-matched from another M59 as is the bolt carrier. The bolt is from 675xxx 59/66 so I would have to say last refurb on this guy was done sometime after 1983 when that bolt was assembled with it's original rifle.

Thanks for looking I hope you all enjoy these pics, I will replace with better when I can. :)

Nice SKS :vcool: :vcool: I think you're gonna like it. I got two of the 59/66A1's, both perform great.

IIRC that TG Knox, TN is Tennessee Gun, Knoxville TN. It seems like they were the ones with a bunch of Khyber Pass enfields and such a few years ago.

That sticker is neat. I remember when the Yugos were really flooding the market. There was one I should have gotten that was in nice shape but had a movie poster cut from a magazine glued on the buttstock of Tom Cruise in Top Gun. It was pretty neat to see all the variations of trench art on these rifles when they first started coming in.

I saw it before you did. Not online, I unpacked it at the gun shop where you picked it up. It is a nice rifle.

:chuckles: I almost asked if you were on any of the boards. I like that shop I've been in and out of there a couple times and I think one of the reasons I like it is that the people remind me of home. There's another I had shipped there I'd like you to see (if you haven't already :chuckles: ) We should go shoot sometime.

I've watched a lot of listings for several months and seen at least 2 - 3 with Beverly Hills 90210 stickers on them, can't help but laugh picturing a guy fighting house to house in the Bosnian War..with that on his rifle. Whatever keeps you going I guess  Maybe he was telling himself "If I live through this I'm going to Hollywood and look up Shannon Doherty."
