BFPU M21 SKS. No Papers Needed

Post by martin08 »

I had the recent fortune to add a Vietnam bringback Chinese M21 N09 series SKS to the collection.

It needs no papers, as it was signed on the battfield by a Major Clay M. Ore.

And because of the signature, it won't be a firing specimen. The gas tube/piston are rendered inoperative. Looks like the original blade bayonet must have taken a pretty good hit, too, as it now sports an AK-47 folding spike. Fortunately, the matching stock only took a couple of small shrapnel blows, and all of the damage to the action is limited to the gas tube latch area and forward.

Patina is simply gorgeous. 8)

Pics, and thanks for looking.

I actually took the gas tube off when I got home from work, and observed that the piston moves just far enough to engage the full travel of the operating rod.

It probably does shoot just fine.

I agree Matt, firing that one serves no purpose, :beek:

Wow. I want to know it's story but then I think I know enough. Great piece of history.

Aw we need to know if it functions ! Ill bet it does, and not as a single shot either, The famous M08 bench string test would prove that point of this war ridden surplus warrior.. Very cool catch  Just wish it could talk to tell the story.

Patina ? I like it :D Any meaning to it ? Ol gal you went to school with ?
Ive only named one of my Chi-Coms. I walked over to the silverware drawer grabbed all the spoons and forks. Threw them up in the air and when they landed it said ching, chong, ding song, bling, and thats what I named it.. Really easy

How nice of a guy must martin08 be, that he'll show you something a lot of people would never see in a lifetime of collecting and then thank you for your time in looking it over ? The pleasure was mine m08 and thank ya right back.

So I'm looking at the pics and thinking where in the devil is the signature he mentioned ? Was going to ask if you had tried to do any sort of lookup on the Major. And then somebody turned the lights on.

Yes, Major Clay M. Ore has a very messy signature.

And, thank you.

I read the signature as Sgt. M. Ortar, but my eyes are getting old.

Love it Martin! That is one amazing piece & I'm glad it found its way to your collection. :Drool1: 8-) I'm also really glad I didn't end up inquiring about the "signature" either. I looked & looked at the pics trying to figure out just where this signature was & when I didn't find it decided I wasn't going to be the first one to ask where the heck it was but I was going to keep track of this post and see just how things evolved. Major Clay Moore did in fact sign that beauty. Congrats again Martin, thanks for sharing this one with us, and thanks for the laugh! :chuckles:

When one thinks about a Vietnam bringback, the usual picture that comes to mind involves pitting, patina, general jungle grime, and maybe a battle scar or two. But not all may be defined as such. The following is a bookend to my recent acquisition, about 3,800 units apart on the assembly line.

These pictures tell an entirely different story. An M21 arsenal SKS with no evidence of ever being fired in the field is an unlikely find, for sure. Still in cosmo below the wood line.

Enjoy, folks.
