41' VKT M39

Post by husker51 »

Good morning this first day of March! Just wanted to share some pics of my VKT M39 I picked up last month. Came with a sling for $424.50 OTD. I was after an early serial number so I finally settled for this after watching for a few months. Not quite as nice as I had hoped for but still I like it. The NEW receiver surprised me. The bore is GREAT! I probably shouldn't have been surprised by that though. This was the third in my quest for M39 arsenal representatives. First was the SAKO, then the Sk.Y(by SAKO) and finally the VKT. I was targeting WWII weaponry but now I may look hard at the B barrel and the "Late Date/ No makers". So many choices.

This photo doesn't do the bore justice. It is pretty sharp.

This one has the CAI import stamping. My first two had a Knoxville Tenn. stamping on them. Don't understand unless Burns is supplementing their stock and I know that cannot be under her circumstance. Any thoughts anyone?

This one was also a very greasy one!

Now for the more disappointing part. I think this was a soft spot in the wood. Not positive but due to the off color(greenish), that is what I suspect. It has little dents in it for whatever reason.

It has Sestoryetsk, Izhevsk and Tula bolt parts.

This was purchased during Burn's 5% off and free sling sale. I was not elated with the stock but hey, it's a damned old Finnish military rifle from WWII! Whats not to like right! I didn't expect a NEW receiver or an outstanding bore.

That's all for now. Please feel free to comment.

Burns was not always there when M39's first started coming in and was never an importer. You may have been lucky to get before they did! Looks nice! Enjoy shooting it. Many fine pre Burns M39's are out there yet being cleared out by collectors or their heirs. Generally that is what I seek. Bill

Nothing wrong with that stock, looks great :) I bought M39's from Pat Burns directly, I never had any issues with any of them. Never had any issues with any of the M39's I bought from any source for that matter.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

My other two M39s have import stamps "TG Knox. Tenn." Does anyone know what the origin of that stamp is?? All three came from Burns.

Very nice. Congrats. Wouldn't it have been nice to get 2 and save 10%? But dang those prices add up quick in doubles.

Hey Husker,
NEW receiver, great bore and a stock that just shows wear and tear during WWII and is what it is. I think you did just fine.
