I read about this place on another forum. Anyone ordered from them before?
https://www.classicfirearms.com

Looked last night and they had M44s in stock. I don't have a C&R so can't order online... but I'm going to be in that area this weekend. (Coincidence, or destiny? )
Just ordered an M44 and a can of ammo for local pickup.

PS, This is getting out of hand. Beginning of last week, I had no Mosins. By the end of this week I will have 3.

Upper echelons of my personal shit list for two reasons, one, they were hard chroming a variety of Mosins and pistols back a few years, can't get more Bubba than that. Two, they once sent me two nice refurb 91/30's dumped in the same box with nothing more than loose wrap of brown paper between them. When box arrived one rifle was hanging out and both were banging against each other. This was back when I was accumulating a great many Mosins, lets just say their customer service department lacks charm, I believe it was blamed on an FNG down in shipping, I guess a small family run company has problems training and supervising new hires. None of this of course will impact you face to face buy as no shipping is involved . Before the "incident" I did a lot of business with them, and it wasn't the "incident" that ended that, it was my disgust at the chrome Mosins.

Best dang used car salesmen in the Milsurp business I know of! I suppose them changing hands has solved all their problems but their approach to Milsurps really doesn't give much confidence in them. If you are going there to pick up things they can't hurt you too much I hope! They are supposed to have reformed and be "Wonderful" now but I like JYD am an elephant I do not forget past sins. Bill

PS Wonderful = they haven't been caught yet!

I just joined this board. Have been on it quite a while learning all I can about Mosins. Bought my first one several months ago from another dealer. Saw one of Classic's ads-----a Hex receiver 91/30 priced at $169. They described the rifles as very good to excellent. However they were not going to select any of these since they all came in separate boxes. You simply got the luck of the draw. They didn't indicate who was the importer which should have been a tip-off if I had done a little more research. Anyway I went for one. It turned out to be a Molot imported by I.O. INC so I'm really learning alot about that particular group. As it turned out the rifle is a 1934 Tula Hex with red sight and markings, double date stamp and MO marking. There's no refurb markings on the receiver. Looks like Ukrainian refurb marks on the barrel. Has a post war stock with Ukrainian marks. Metal and barrel in great shape. A few big gouges on the stock. I'll post some pics in the Molot forum when I can. Were they less than honest in their description?? I probably should have been better informed or asked more questions. Their service and feedback tho has been fine. Would probably buy from them again but would certainly call first. Hope this helps. Thanks, Hoppes

The NRA set up guidlelines for antique or used firearms condition. There was a time when everyone used them to describe a firearm for sale, now it seems everyone makes up their own guidelines as they go along.

NRA Antique Firearm Conditions Standards

FACTORY NEW: All original parts; 100% original finish; in perfect condition in every respect, inside and out.

EXCELLENT: All original parts; over 80% original finish; sharp lettering, numerals and design on metal and wood; unmarred wood; fine bore.

FINE: All original parts; over 30% original finish; sharp lettering, numerals and design on metal and wood; minor marks in wood; good bore.

VERY GOOD: All original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised; bore disregarded for collectors firearms.

GOOD: Some minor replacement parts; metal smoothly rusted or lightly pitted in places, cleaned or re-blued; principal letters, numerals and design on metal legible; wood refinished, scratched bruised or minor cracks repaired; in good working order.

FAIR: Some major parts replaced; minor replacement parts may be required; metal rusted, may be lightly pitted all over, vigorously cleaned or re-blued; rounded edges of metal and wood; principal lettering, numerals and design on metal partly obliterated; wood scratched, bruised, cracked or repaired where broken; in fair working order or can be easily repaired and placed in working order.

POOR: Major and minor parts replaced; major replacement parts required and extensive restoration needed; metal deeply pitted; principal lettering, numerals and design obliterated, wood badly scratched, bruised, cracked or broken; mechanically inoperative; generally undesirable as a collector's firearm.

Yes, as long as the seller follows those guidelines. One of the first Milsurps I bought was a T53 from Omega in AZ listed as "Fine" condition. What I received was a junk, sewer-pipe bore parts rifle. When pressed, the owner told me that he "just grabbed one that looked decent" but wouldn't accept a return.

My first Mosin came from them a 1928 Tula hex. The only problem I've had is from that purchase is this awful incurable condition know as Mosinitis. :D :D :D

Omega, now there is a blast from the long past, very familiar with their product. They were either the first, or among the very first outfits to offer large quantities of Mosins in the post 1986 era. Some of them were so rough people just gave them to me, but back then the cost was minimal for an Omega type 53.

All good service from me. If I received the Tula red letter mentioned above I would have been doing a happy dance including back flips and swinging from a chandelier! That was a plus!

I paid $39 for my T53 from Omega. A little rough around the edges, but very fire-able and "cleanable" (well, kind of!).

I've bought from them several times and had zero issues. They even credited me back 30 bucks once when a rifle went on sale the next day that I ordered the day before.

In my experience they slightly over describe the quality. I ordered a very good walnut stock K31. Go a beaver chewed beech stock with an almost completely polished out insignia on the receiver. Was offered a $20 discount and no offer of a return. There are so many good outfits out there why take a second chance.

I did buy a K-31 bayonet from them last week. Been a long time since I bought a rifle from them. I don't recall any issues. Check out AIM Surplus as well. I just got a very nice Swiss 96/11 from them. Our sponsors also have Mosins, Axis, Chris over at Trinity and Liberty Tree has a wide assortment of Milsurps.

Looks like Classic is out of Mosins, no more chrome Mosins from them I guess.

This post is a great example of how and how not to run a business or even buy or sell guns. Classic screwed up and lost an entire generation of collectors even though they stopped their silliness and made positive changes. But that generation of people would never purchase from them again. Classic had to wait for the new generation of Mosinites to try and improve their reputation. When I was in the restaurant business in a different life the facts were that if someone walked out totally satisfied and happy, they would maybe tell one person of their experience. If, however, their experience was negative then they would make a point to tell, on average, 12 people. Those 12 people wouldn't necessarily make a point of telling others though. But when asked, they would respond negatively. So, even decades later the negative image is passed on.

Just picked up my M44 from Classic. Pretty much what I expected. They don't do local pickup at their own place. They drop off at a local gun shop and you pick up there. So I didn't get to hand select my own. I knew that going into it though. The local store was friendly and the transaction was quick.

You have to order over the phone for pickup orders. That process was subpar. The woman I spoke with was not interested in answering any questions. Seemed to be in a hurry. She made it VERY clear that the $10 select charge was for barrel only. They check the bore but do not promise top quality for any other part of the gun. For customer service I'll give them a 3 out of 5.

The gun is OK. Numbers matching 1944 round receiver izhevk. There is some surface rust on the outside of the barrel at the stock line. The top barrel shroud wood doesn't match. The stock is gouged in one spot . Not bad but not perfect. The bolt, barrel, and chamber are 100% though... At least as far as I can see before cleaning.

If I had bought the gun at a show I would have haggled down on the price, or waited to find a better one. But all in all, I'm not displeased with what I got for the price. I'd give the gun a 4 out of 5. Of course that may change after i dig in and clean it.

Still on the road but will post some pics tonight or tomorrow.
