1919 Foremost Tula M91
Here is an example of a 1919 Tula RSFSR M91. Translation of RSFSR, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic. Made during the Russian Civil War 1917-1923. During this time period the Tula arsenal became known as the Foremost Tula Ordnance Factory RSFSR. This change was the end of the Imperialist/Tsar style markings. In 1924, the Soviet Constitution was endorsed, thus creating the U.S.S.R. At the same time the Tula arsenal name changed again to Foremost Tula Ordnance Factory USSR.
Along with having the "Big Hammer" receiver stamp, it has the rare combination of script and block lettering. This is just one of three stamps used in 1919. Due to the changes in power that year, lack of funds, and the internal conflict, the number of Tula rifles made was very low. The barrel stamp however remained in use until 1924.
This particular rifle at some point fell in to the hands of the Finnish military, [SA] stamp and Finnish stock w/wire hangers. The butt plate and magazine are scrubbed which is normal, but the bolt is matching.
