Finished cleaning my first M44 from cosmoline.
Exposed parts are plain steel finish. Covered parts are blued steel finish. Interesting.
Found few rust spots on barrel and receiver; all in area that’s covered with stock. Bore is good.
Like the location of import marks. One is at the bottom of barrel in front and one is on receiver, covered when bolt is closed.
Looking forward to take it to range.
After 91/30, this is my second Mosin. Time to look for next one.

Thats a nice looking rifle you have there. Can you see any slash/box markings? I really need to look at the pictures from a laptop and not my iPhone. :/
The reason for the two tone bluing is that your rifle is not one of the refurbished Mosin hoard, it's an issued rifle. The blue was once all the same color above and below the wood line, but years of handling have worn the blue thin on top. Your rifle was in the hands of troops and then put away for eventual sale rather than be sent to be refurbished and stashed away. Likely this is one of the Balkan used rifles, Soviet aid to their client states after WW2. No, I do not see a refurb stamp on the metal, this was probably a new rifle when sent to Poland, or Hungary, then Romania, it would never have seen a Soviet arsenal again. This is an older import, early 2000's, most of that hoard were 91/30's, M44's were much lower in number. You will find 100 refurbished M44's for every issued one you find that isn't a Chinese type 53.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

This is one of the Albanian non refurbs that recently came here, sold through Aim. Nice honest rifles.
I have several of the first hoard of these M44's, this rifle matches them with the import markings. Back then these issued rifles were not that popular until collectors realized how few as last issued M44's were around compared to the refurbs. That's why I went out of my way to find as many issued looking Mosins as I could find back then. One of the issued rifles was a 1943 M44 trials rifle, got that one from Bob W the old board owner, still have it hidden away

Aim is well known for bringing out small lots of older imports from time to time, they did this with the Finn Mosins for years, and may yet have some stashed for later sale at higher prices. Most outfits like them do the same thing.

No, this one does not have any slash/box markings.

I actually have a couple of each as part of the overall collection including what appears to be a non-refurbed M44 that saw some very hard use. I just really like the long rifles, particularly the M91s. And dragoons. And ex-dragoons. And . . .
That's a real beauty. Great first M-44. And what a great bore. You did very good with this one. The s/n on the receiver rail is a Tennessee Guns (TG) stamping.
I have a '45 Izhevsk that looks exactly like that. It is missing refurb markings and is a C.A.I. import. The finish is so thin on the exposed metal that it looks as if it were intentionally removed, but like yours, it has good bluing under the wood line.
