Continuing My Affair with Walthers

I have a liking for the ergonomics of the current breed of Walthers. I so enjoyed my Walther PPX that I got to looking at the P99 AS and decided that I'd like that one as well. I particularly like that it has a decocker, which the PPX does not. So I found a realitively low priced P99 on Gunbroker. I took possession of it tonight.
I like the fit of the grip in my hand. The pistol came with a sample target, the group was 1.5 inches at 15m.

My first generation Walther P99 has been an excellent and very accurate pistol.

Just finished putting 45 rounds through the P99.
The trigger was not expected. I'm not certain I like the pull. There is a lot of travel to get to the final stage, and then it's very light. My Beretta PX4 has a trigger with less travel and it's very light as well. Ther two are very different.
The PPX has a smoother trigger in my opinion.
I will have to shoot it more to figure out if I want to keep it.
If this is similar to the trigger pull on a glock, then I know I'd not like a Glock.
The recoil was manageable, fairly soft on my hand. Accuracy was exceptional. I managed to get 3 inch groups at 7 yards, minus the flyers that I tossed away. It shoots good.

If you want a single, consistent trigger pull, this is not the pistol for you. It is a three stage "anti-stress" trigger. This includes a long double action-style pull (first shot out of the holster), a two stage single action pull with some take-up and a single action style pull with no take up. Now that I have shot a couple of thousand rounds, I appreciate it for what it is. I like being able to de-cock or cock the striker for different pull option. The Glock does not give you an option; the trigger pull is the same every time you draw. I carry the Walther with the striker de-cocked to give me the first shot as a long "double action" type pull for that big decision about whether I want to shoot something or somebody. Once you get used to this concept, the anti-stress trigger makes perfect sense. You just have to get acclimated to using it.

I realized that after thinking on it some. I need to try shooting it more. The reason i considered it in the first place was that de-cocker. The PPX is strickly a range gun for me, it has no de-cocker, no safety. I'm not carrying that.
I have a preference for a firing pin block safety like the Beretta and the PP, PPK, and PPK/s have.
I totally agree that you have to get used to the trigger pull on the P99. It took me a couple of magazines before I was starting to get comfortable with where the SA trigger was.
