intersting markings

Post by kdeman1 »

Hi, I just picked up a 1942 (missing the r) izhevsk I believe. The numbers are matching, I don't think they are a forced match. My question is why does my mosin have a tula stars under the sight and on the bolt body. Is this weird? The bolt body has a star but the safety has a arrow. Why might this be?

Not weird...in fact, quite the opposite. It would be a whole lot weirder to find a 42 where every single stamped part came from the same place.

Assuming you have bought a very widely available refurb from one of the normal sources you have an almost new like rifle made from parts and assembled and remarked to match. Hence you can have parts made at many different arsenals and remarked to match and fit and for the most part work as new. It more than likely will be a good shooter with maybe a little tuning and will work in as you continue to shoot it and care for it. Good Luck and enjoy the experience! Bill :D
