"1928 Izhevsk mosin MO marked second date is 53 these are hard to come by and I've only seen 3 the stock is pre war all matching except floor plate asking $220 shipped"
The above description appears in a Canadian forum and the firearm is available to me locally.
Becasue of the date and the arsenal, I've been on 7.62x54r.net and found this...
"A. A Dragoon is a version of the M91 that is the same length as an M91/30, but has the M91 type sights and a unique handguard. This model was phased out in the early 1930s and replaced by the M91/30. An updated Dragoon has the sights and handguard replaced with the M91/30 types. It is basically an M91/30 in that configuration, but because it is dated pre-1930 it is often referred to as an ex-Dragoon or updated Dragoon by US collectors. While certainly not as rare as a Dragoon in original configuration they are less common than post 1930 M91/30s and sought after by many collectors."
Price sounds reasonable and it would be nice to have a Dragoon.
What say you ?? Should I get this ??

I would consider it & $220 shipped is not a horrible price. A little bummed it's in a "Post-War" stock though. Pressed in escutcheons are a dead giveaway... Maybe offer $200 shipped?

'Agree with Rongo.
It's an ex-Dragoon. I like these, for no rational reason. I have some MO marked rifles. That's never been a big draw for me, but it's nice to have one in your collection.
Is the rifle worth $200-220 to you?

Thx for confirming it's an ex-Dragoon, that's interesting to me.

Well, since it's local to me the guy is willing to knock it down to $190 which is what they are now going for across Canada. THe bonus here is that I don't have to pay federal and provincial taxes.

It's interesting that the MO has been struck through. Thats the second one i've seen like that in two days. Does that make it an ex-MO ex-dragoon?

What would you think of this one then... I think it's a 21/44 but who's to know

It's got an identity crisis though - 95 Tula receiver

190.00 sounds good. It looks good too. You should have a nice one if you buy it.

Ditto. Very cool!
OP - the 00 I believe is the proof mark used during that era.

Nice rifle!
The double zero is an accuracy proof. The shim is there to provide proper spacing for the magazine, and so the action screws can achieve proper tension. I rarely see them in Russian refurbs, but my laminate 1929 has magazine shims.
The number 2 on the stock is likely a rack number. My M38 has a 2 in the same spot and font.

If that 2 is a rack number then rack #2 must have been sagging from all the rifles. [emoji2]

The 00 means you found my rifle, thanks!
The #2 is on a LOT of refurb stocks. Probably in inspection or maker's mark of some kind.

You guys are right on the 2, it didn't cross my mind that we don't see other numbers there often.
Either way, I got one out of two!
