1951 Tula Original

Post by OLD OUTLAW »

I think I have posted a few of this one some where. Don't know. But, had better light and more time to do a good shoot.
A nice story here! When I first bought it came tome with a black polished chrome bayonet. Original issue would have been a
shiny highly polished chrome. So, not long ago I bought a shiny for it. Got it in and didn't put it on yet. However, awhile back
the seller sent me an email. He told me he had the original bayonet that came with that rifle.Wanted to know if I wanted it.
Oh Yes! i told him. He sent it to me at his expense because he felt bad he did not send it along in the first place.

Now I ask you, how uncommon is this. Talk about the proverbial needle in a hay stack. So, here she is in her perfect state!
Notice all the tiny inspection marks a clear on the stock.Take particular notice of the pic with the sight shown vertical. Upper right on very edge of the wood,
is a clear mark still! Second vertical shot is best to see. Butt plate I forgot to shoot. All blued and at least 98%. There are also three inspection stamps around the cross bolt nut on the right side. I really like this one!!!

My thoughts were right...once I had a SKS in my hands, I could better understand and respect what everyone here is talking about. Your's is truly special and the photos are top notch! Thank you for posting this one up...again, I learned something.

I took care of it for you.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

the 51 Russian sks is hard to find in un-issued condition Most are rebuilts and for some reason most have laminated stocks as replacements All you Russian collectors want to remember that the Russians scrubbed many parts while doing the re builds and re stamped them with serial number of the gun they were going on. I have found three top covers that were dated and re-stamped for late Tula 55 56 date guns one was the first Ishevesk 53 I owned I paid allot for it then when I received it I saw the tell tale small star after serial number denoting late 55 56 Tula production After closer examination i could see where various parts had been sanded and restamped . you can usually tell by the sanding marks and the contours have been changed by sanding they will not have rounded corners. The non rebuilt 51 is a great find!!!

Now, Outlaw. Remember having the discussion a while back about the black chrome bayonet as being original?? :o

I know that many SKS owners want so badly to believe that a black chrome bayonet is an OEM part. But I have yet to see one on a gun that has the original staking of the bayonet retaining screw.

And now that I'm done picking on you, I should really take the time to praise this gun again. As Howie alluded, it is one of the more difficult ones to find in original condition, and you have found a real gem. Getting the correct bayonet is an extreme bonus. Puts it over the top!
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

Ya know Matt, after we figured the staking was off, I figured I would find a shiny. I had no idea he himself had taken the original off because he wanted a black one. How many times does a "lost" rifle part ever show up again? He could have just sold it, but he contacted me. Your luck must be rubbing off on me. :D

Trying to get caught up here. I know one thing. If I don't make it here often enough, I miss out. This gun is just beautiful. I can't imagine the chances of even finding one at all, just too many idiots getting their hands on them it seems. I have a refurbished 51 Tula, painted bolt and all, but since it is currently the only one I have I have to keep mentioning it. It is nice to look here Old Outlaw and see what mine looked like when it was new, before being handled, shot, worn, then refurbed! This 51 is simply the perfect marriage of steel and wood. I look forward to another SKS, and my brother is always on the lookout for me. He manages a pawn shop and has found amazing things over the years, far too amazing to even begin talking about here now. That is where my 51 refurb came from. I had gone to the pawn shop to pick up a Yugo 59/66 that he put back for me, but when I showed up to pick it up, he had a surprise for me. I got it for a song, and although it is in bbq form, I wouldn't change a single thing. I hated to disassemble it the first time because of the scratch it put in the paint when I raised the retaining pin arm. Thank you for showing this gem. :)

I got this one in November late. It was on Gun Brokers with pretty good pictures. Only about two bids had been offered. I kept
telling myself, "some thing is wrong here. It's a 51 original, why no bidding? " Right at the end I bid $5 higher and just got it.
I think I had to pay $470 for this one. There have been a few 51 Non-refurbs sold in 2011. But the condition on them I was just
not interested in.
But there were three in real good condition.
One at $956.00 in May.
A lesser one at $610 in Sept.
Mine and the best of the bunch in November. $470 Now I want a non-refurb 1950. Gonna be a long watch and wait
I am sure. Cause I will not pay those big prices while deals still do occur if I have patience and keep my eyes open. :D
