ordered a P-64

Post by polymerase2 »

Well I have resisted temtation somewhat. I have learned if I buy a gun I am not absolutely sure about, righe after I buy it the perfect gun (at the time) will come up.
I resisted the Browning Hi-Powers, I resisted the FEG's, I resisted the non-C&R P-64s and then:
Aim has those nice and clean C&R P-64's. I couldn't resist. More when it arrives.

Sounds like all your resistance is causing you you miss out. I would recommend the Hi Power, or it's Hungarian clone and even the FEG's any day and twice on Sunday. :P:congrats on the 64! cool:

AIM had some C&R Hi powers but they only lasted a couple of hours.

Well here it is. I'm very pleased with the condition and price. Yes the double action pull is horrible. The single action feels pretty nice. we'll see what happens after a cleaning.
This could be carried in a front pocket with a pocket holster. Its significantly smaller than a Makarov, and I can get all 4 fingers on the grip as opposed to the pocket .380's.

Those Poles really know how to build a pistol. Nice looking pistol you got there.

Wolf has some reasonable spring kits for these. I got a set for my PA 63 and used the 8# spring and it made all the difference in the world.

Seeing what they are sending out is not helping my fight against the temptation to buy one. Just bought a Star Model B from j&g but I may have to suck it up and get one of these too...wife won't be happy if she finds out.

I was going to ask for spring advice once I was able to go out and shoot it. Live is conspiring to keep my nose to the grindstone.

Congrats on you P-64. I've had on a couple years and love to shoot it. It "bites" a little when you shoot but I like it because it is like James Bond's 007 Walther. I put some custom grips on mine for a while but now I'm back to the original grips,. Enjoy

The kit I got had three different springs in it. They are easy to change so you can play around and see what feels right.

Finally got to shoot it. We have an afternoon of shooting after opening day of hunting season. Its a great shooter. I didn't think it was too snappy; a wrap around rubber grip would make it just about perfect. Very accurate. A couple of stovepipes but I was using Brown Bear and I think the slide needs a little more lube. A little slide bite was the only problem.

The P64 is the first handgun I ever bought. At the time I was underwhelmed, but it really grew up on me. How much? Let's say I have a P08, P1 (P38 in alloy frame), 1911, Hi Power, P83, Mag 98, Tokarev, and so on, and the P64 is still my favourite.

I did force myself to learn how to shoot it single handed since, let's be honest, it is rather small for 2 hands. The kick I got used to; I would even add it helped me learn how to hold it correctly. Which is not hard since it seems to fit my hand very nicely. I did find out if I put my little finder under the magazine finger extension I shoot better.

FYI, http://p64resource.com/ is a great place for talking about this pistol. My username there is the same as here
