Saw this one on GB and just had to have it. One single high bid brought it home to me.

Really cool rifle with a bunch of history. I'll let the pics tell the story.

Edit: looks like the forum is cropping the pictures off. :vconfused:

Looks very nice. You need to downsize your pictures to 800X640 at least. That is why your pictures are to big to show.

Ah, I thought photobucket resized them down automatically.

I'm always happy to see another Sestroryetsk posted. The prices keep going up on these but to me, they are the best looking arsenal marking, followed closely by the PTG marking.

Yours has great history. I especially like the wooden crossbolt.

I liked this Sestroryetsk and the originality of the stock and only receiving minimal updates.
After the Finns bought or traded this rifle they didn't do much to it, [SA] marked it, replaced the front sight blade and it looks like a Finn front swivel replaced the wire one it would have had.
The rear sight wasn't restamped or the arshins crossed out.

One cool thing is it has a 1901 Sestroryetsk receiver and a 1917 Sestroryetsk barrel. I wonder what happened to it?

Love that stock. Wood and steel crossbolt, and no escutcheons.

Are there Austrian marks on the barreled action?

I don't see anymore marks, just a few tiny inspection marks.

I would say that wooden cross bolt with the crack running to the rear in the stock and the wood repair in the actions hole by the recoil lug is telling us something about why that steel recoil lug is in there. Great rifle with great pictures! Thanks for sharing it with us. Finn repairs are sometimes hard to figure out but I am betting that rifle is talking to us if we listen. I absolutely love that one. I am wondering how and when the 1917 barrel was put on the 1901 receiver. Was this done in 1917 at the Sestroryetsk factory during the civil war before being evacuated?

While in the Austro-Hungary hands, did they do any major work to the mosin rifles or just basic parts swapping. Was the re-chambering they did a big operation or just a few hundred/thousand.

We all know the Finns did barrel swaps but wouldn't they have at least done the rear sight update at the same time?

I know we will never know but is fun to speculate. :P

??? I'm confused? The rear sight is the update? It isn't the original flat sight?

Fantastic rifle by the way!
