Finally getting a M1 Garand.
Finally getting a M1 Garand.
For a while now I have kept my eyes open for an M1 that really spoke to me and I finally found it. It's a Sept. 1944 Receiver, all SA parts, a Korean sling, and the barrel looks really good to the eye. The stock is a bit of a mix in colors but I think it gives it character. Sadly it's on layaway so it will be a while before I will have it out but that's ok.

Very cool. Nothing wrong with layaway, I have bought a few guns like that. Heck, if my local gun shop will start doing layaway again I will buy more on layaway.

Honestly I shouldn't have spent the money for it right now but I couldn't let it slip away. My local pawn shop has 10 month lawaway so I only have to make small payments. I'll hopefully get it out in 2 months.BubbaDX wrote:Very cool. Nothing wrong with layaway, I have bought a few guns like that. Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

That is a great looking rifle. I know time flies these days, but the next couple of months are gonna drag.

That gives you some time to find clips and ammo.
Re: Finally getting a M1 Garand.
Check the CMP estore. Best prices you will find for clips. $20 for 25walnut red wrote:That gives you some time to find clips and ammo.
Coveter of stinky old rifles!

Good news is, is that my car didn't cost as much as I thought so I'm getting it most likely Tuesday. I bought clips from Liberty Tree without doing price comparisons so I paid a little much but I'm not sweating it haha. Anyone like the Korean surplus 30-06? I've been eyeing it.

Re: Finally getting a M1 Garand.
You have to be careful with it, some if not all is corrosively primed. Depends what the headstamps are and who you get it from. Some places sell corrosive and list it as mixed and some places sell it as non corrosive but it's still mixed. CMP has Greek and it's non corrosive boxer primed. There's also a few places selling Prvi Partizan that's made specifically for the M1 Garand. It's a little more but is also reloadable boxer primed if you reload. http://gun-deals.com/list/ammo/.30-06+Springfieldsgtheindl wrote:Good news is, is that my car didn't cost as much as I thought so I'm getting it most likely Tuesday. Re: Finally getting a M1 Garand.
Finally brought it home and I'm super excited! After doing a lot of research all of the internals parts are SA and match the era of the receiver, the stock I have no idea since there are no marks and the barrel is a November '65 rebarrel. Only thing that looks out of place is the front barrel band, its definitely later and its parkerized where everything else is not. Can't wait to shoot it and still waiting for my en bloc clips to come in.

That is so nice. I think these are the perfect marriage between wood and steel! I am very happy for you, maybe even a little envious.

Because you are posting on a preservation forum, I know you will treat her right.
I encourage the use of this datasheet to record all the parts:

Re: Finally getting a M1 Garand.
Thanks for the sheet!, and yes it will be very well taken care of. I have put about 140 rounds through it (The American Eagle M1 safe loads.)with the firing pin snapping on the 22nd but besides that it has been amazing and possibly my favorite rifle to shoot. The Krag and PU Sniper are all in that race haha. I haven't mentioned until now but I cleaned ALOT of sand of the trigger grouping and receiver which helps lend to what all it has been through...unless someone took it too many beach parties at some point.
