Kabul Arsenal Martini Henry Knock-Off

If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

Kabul Arsenal Martini Henry Knock-Off

Post by djbuck1 »

`Picked this one up a few months back.

I have not had it out to the range because I have not found/bought ammunition for it yet, though I see rounds advertised from time to time on GB.

I was told that this is not a "Khybertini," and that the overall quality of these rifles is good.

It's a carbine, of course, not a full length infantry rifle.

Khyber pass rifle, quality is an unknown, very, very risky to shoot these. Our boys have been bringing these home from Afghanistan since the war began, wallhanger it.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

`Not sure how it got to the US, J. I got it from a friend who picked it up at a gun show where a dealer had it behind the table. It may well be a "bring back." I had thought of giving it to my CO when he retired last year and probably should have as yes, I'd be leery about putting a round in this.

If I abruptly disappear and there's suddenly a big influx of "estate" weapons on GB, you'll know what happened.

That would look great on the wall. No use to risk life and limb when there are so many rifles of known providence to be had.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Thousands of these type weapons have been showing up on the market over the last decade, one well known GB seller seems to have a couple every week. That will end as US troops withdrawals continue. The selection of weapons that a USGI can bring home from that shithole is fairly small, these rifles are pretty much it. They have their place in history.

Right. General Order No 1-B is highly restrictive in terms of what can be brought back-- at least as I see it being interpreted. The idea of wrapping up a military rifle and mailing it home as was done on occasion in WWII, or doing a duffle cut and hauling one back, is as remote as the concept of the female form on the nose art of our aircraft-- when nose art is even allowed.

During Desert Storm, units could at least bring weapons back as unit trophies. They were supposed to be rendered inoperable first . . .

If I had the ordering of things, the rules would be quite different, which is one reason why I am retiring as an O-5. And as has been said to me, "You were born about 100 years too late."

Yeah. I know. :very mad:
