Bought myself a 1952 Polish M44 for my birthday
It's a bit of a hodge podge. Barrel and floorplate match. Bolt does not match. Hungarian stock, Budapest arsenal, Hungarian buttplate. Dark stock with a light top handguard.
It's been counterbored. Nice bright bore.
I dub thee "the mongrel"
Does anyone know what the two "4" stamps located above and below the date are?
I'm going to spend the night cleaning it up and getting it ready to shoot!

Romanian used, the parts mix is normal for these, my Hungarian M44 has a Polish stock, and a mix of Hungarian and Romanian parts, it's just how the Romanian peoples army kept these rifles going. Very nice, happy birthday, I get all the best shit from me also

Here are a few more pics I've taken while disassembling.
Receiver tang marking
The upper handguard has a thin wood veneer shim.
Some pencil marking inside the stock lower handguard...seems to correspond with the shim
Stamping on the buttstock. More number "4"
This thin has a heavy finish on it with several drips and runs. It has been sanded against the grain. Does this finish seem typical?
