I Refinished one of the two Marlin 60's from pawn shop

Post by Buckhead »

Well out of the two Marlin 60's I got at the pawn shop I decided to do the worst one first and I am quite happy with the way it came out.
Now I have to get it to the range and see how she shoots. The scope is an old Tasco silver that I sanded and painted with a two part urethane.
I don't even know if the scope is any good I got it at a yard sale for $5.00. It looks okay looking through it but only some range time will tell.

I started with this

And wound up with this

That did turn out nice. I like the dark stain better than the original. Let us know how the scope does.

I can't believe how reasonable these are. I saw a new laminate model 60 at Walmart for 147.00. How about that? :P

Great job. That Marlin looks better than some of the new ones now on sale. Keep up the good work.

I was thinking the same thing... But if it turns out as nice as this one would just keep it.

 I'm guessing you restained the wood (Walnut?) and then finished with something like Tung Oil? Just curious. It looks great; excellent work.

Minwax dark walnut stain an 4 coats of Minwax Helmsman satin spray varnish rubbed down with 000 steal wool between coats. Thanks y'all for the kind reply's.
I do like refinishing these old Marlin 60's but the problem is I never want to part with them after I am finished. My wife keeps asking how many of those same guns do you need.

Marlin 60s are so much fun. You got a great deal. I hope that 22lr comes back soon. I miss the days of plinking all afternoon for less than 10 bucks. Now the only 22lr that I can find is aguila interceptor at 10 dollars a box of 50 at my LGS. Winchester wildcats were 97 cents a box for 50 at Roses department store when I got my first 22.

That Model 60 really turned out great with the darker stain. Very nice work. Fun rifles to shoot.
