HI Point Pistol Caliber Carbine or kalTec Sub2000
HI Point Pistol Caliber Carbine or kalTec Sub2000
I want a pistol caliber carbine for home defense but can't decide between these two or suck it up and shell out twice as much for a JR Carbine... thoughts??
Re: HI Point Pistol Caliber Carbine or kalTec Sub2000
I have fired a 9mm Hi-Point carbine, and it was fine. I have no experience with the Kel-Tec. At the risk of sounding like our illustrious VP, I would think hard about something like this. Perhaps in 20 GA. if the wife or kids needed it.

I have the Hi Point 9mm carbine. It's a fun gun to shoot but there are many better options for home defense. I stick with a handgun and 12ga for backup. IMO these pistol caliber carbines are a novelty, I would not use one for home defense.

I have one too. If you have a place to shoot outdoors you can have fun plinking with it, but otherwise it will possibly become one of those carbines that ends up getting sold or traded when the next cool thing for defense comes along.

I personally would love to have a sub2k, but I can't see paying the price that most around here are asking. $600 or more is a little much for me. It would be nice if Kel-Tec could increase production. I've heard real good things about the Hi Points, they just look like something out of Planet of the Apes.

The new TS carbine's don't look like the old monkey guns. I have one in .40 S&W and it is a formidable weapon!Doc A wrote:I personally would love to have a sub2k, but I can't see paying the price that most around here are asking. $600 or more is a little much for me. I have a hi point carbine in 40sw. It is very accurate. Surprisingly accurate. But it isnt my 1st choice for home defense. A pump shotgun is way better. The carbine is really fun to shoot, though. Its the only reason I reload for 40sw. It can be very expensive fun.
