Finnish Sniper rifles?
Finnish Sniper rifles?
Is there such a thing as a Finn sniper as far as the mosin types that are available on the market?
Re: Finnish Sniper rifles?
Oh yes... I am not familiar with all of the models but certainly Finland had a sniper version(s) of the M-39. Also the M27PH later renamed to the M37, the M28 and the M28/30 all had sniper versions. Now, if these are available on the market... I have never seen one but they are out there in collections. I wouldn't doubt that someone here has one. The M27PH is probably the rarest of them all with something like only 500 being made.

In Doug Browser's fine book, "Rifles of the White Death", he indicates several versions of the M39, that were scoped. The best of the Finn snipers used M28's and M28-30's, as well as M39's. Also the Finns had many captured Russian sniper riffles...............these are very rare (marked SA), and I personally have not seen one for sale that was "authentic", but if you find one........let me know

There is almost no chance of seeing one in this country as they all for the most part stayed in Finland. If you do see one for sale here you can almost bet it is a fake. There are some in large collections in this country supposedly. I have never personally seen one but stories abound as you would expect. I don not remember ever seeing one online with enough relevant photos to be unshakably sure it is the real thing. If there is one here I would bet it is in the Vic Thomas collection as he has about everything in the world it seems. How about 3 RV27's for a starter. I would say look over in the attendant references to Vic and Tucos Gun boards and maybe that information would tell you in the picture section who at least owns one. I would say if the last RV27 sold for $3500 or so a genuine Finnish sniper would be in the $5000 to $10,000 range! Still want to find where to buy one?
I don't have that much cash anywhere so I will not be competition for you! Bill

Only ten large? Let me go look under the couch cushions. Or I could just eat ramen three times a day for the next 20 years.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Hey, I could come up with a "down payment" for one of those. Not sure I could make the payments though.

As a side note, anyone with interest in Finnish weapons should bookmark http://www.jaegerplatoon.net, in my opinion it is by far the most complete source about WW2-era Finnish army weapons.
