confirmation of rifles zero... mosin manual

Post by eriksund »

ok folks ..ready for this? been reading the mosin users manual.. translated version.. 101." confirmation of a rifles zero is conducted by firing at 100 meters with the rear sight set at 3. 102. " the point of aim is the bottom center edge of the black rectangle. it should be positioned approximately at eye-level to the firer... any thoughts.... this is what the russian mosin nagant infantry manual says about the zeroing of their field weapon.... should i follow these instructions verbatim? seemed good enough for the soldier and their superiors... can i duplicate the process... any thoughts on this? great book by the way. cheers

Try it and tell us how it works out. BTW Where does it say it is supposed to hit with that set up?
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

it says the target is a white shield not less than 1 meter in height and .5 meters in width with a black rectangle of 30 cm. in height and 20 cm.in width...with the rear at 3, the point of impact should be 17 cm. above the aimpoint.. also it says with the model 1944 carbine the zero is conducted with the bayonet in the combat position... i will try it millman and definitely let you folks know how it went, and ill get some photos too... i frickin' cant wait!!!!!

Remember what this rifle's intended purpose was. They didn't care about MOA, just dead enemies. Just a suggestion, I think you should sight it in to hit targets at whatever range you think you'll be shooting. The measurements given in the manual sort of translate to "from belly to top of head". But in this case, I don't think you'd be happy shooting 17 cm high at an 8" target.

But, it would also be cool to "reenact" the original recommended sight procedure too :)

amen MN fan.... im kind of weird when it comes to accuracy... i can maintain trigger control, bullet drop, and windage.... if i can keep it within 2" at 100 yds with irons i will be happy beyond my 7.62 mm dreams.... it can be done, it will be done, and i will do it... with this rifle... and it will take time, i know this... i love to shoot.. i love it even more when i can hit what im shooting at.... better prepared than scared....

thats what the manual says... i dont really understand it myself.. it will be one of the first things i try when i eventually get to the range... i did do a slight trigger mod... great video on you tube... gives the sear a more rearward pull/release... have tried it yet though... just want to make sure i have most of the kinks out before i go spend a day at the range...
