I went to a gun shop today that is owned by a older gentle man, who was...let say proud...of his rifles.. 91/30 referbs for $270, a Swedish Mauser for $799... You get the point..

Any way he had this trainer I have never seen before.. Its a non firing rifle, made mostly from wood (including the mag). It had a spring loaded but plate that had to be pressed in to "fire"..

What do you guys think this is worth?? IM sure its rare, as how many trainers could they have made?

It looked something like this

You think he's proud, I would be the worst gun seller ever, nothing would be for sale and if it was a new Lincoln would be cheaper :) You can make anything, but I see more than wood parts there, and the one you made would not have the history the real thing has. I have no idea what they go for, I never collected trainers.

I think these were the ones made to see if the soldier had proper sight alignment and trigger control. They would put the trainer a certain distance from the target, and when the cadet pulled the trigger a needle would pierce the paper leaving a "bullet" hole. There were a few different versions so im not sure if this is one of those or not.

There is a small following regarding training rifles that lends to variations in value & pricing. A serious collector would probably pay $400 if they really wanted it where I wouldn't pay more than $100 as more of a curio to the collection. But I would bet it's priced closer to the $400 range at this guys shop... and I would pass for that.

Looks like a nice example. I have one. If I remember correctly it is stamped longbranch on the receiver. When they show up on gunbroker they are in the $250-$300 price range. Be careful that you don't "stick" something with the prongs that come out of the barrel ;)

So this is one of the "rifles" I thought it was then? I don't know much about them and only read about them on an Enfield website a while ago.

Hmmm. So uh, how much was it? I got a real Enfield for 150.00 & it goes boom.

He was looking for in the $250 area (don't recall the exact amount).. I would think this was much more rare then a real enfield..lol

I just think this is cool, but I don't think it's coming home with me.. Too many things that go boom I want :)
