Anyone here ever seen a date this late on a Tula 91/30? 1954 hex receiver... As far as I know Hungary, Romania and Albania were the only countries who manufactured 91/30s in the '50s. Am I missing something?

Odds are that that 5 is really a 3. This happens some time.

That was my first thought. Check the tang!

I bet it is a 3 and not a 5. They look so close! Even better is that the last number in the date is double stamped/restamped.

Cool either way!

Looks like a poorly struct 3, happens quite often, plus the fact it's a hex reciever pretty much confirms that. All Mosin Nagants 91/30's made from 1945 on, that I have ever seen, where made with round high wall recievers, while M44's where made on round low wall recievers.

That's what I was thinking. The picture is a bit blurry but I'd bet if you look at the 5 with a magnifying glass you'll see the back stroke of the five is something that happened later then when it was originally stamped. The 5 also has a teardrop on the end of the curve. Kind of like the 3's in the 1933 below.

Here's a better picture. Played around with the lighting, looks like a 5 to me.

Pretty sure it is a 3. The line is probly the side of the stamp and not the 5. You can see the start of the 3 slash in your foto. :D

I see what you're saying. It's a member of another groups rifle, figured I'd try to help them out and get some input from the pros

The third digit? How do you all figure that is a 3? Maybe it was meant to be a 3, but it was not stamped correctly like the last number.

It's an incorrectly stamped three. Try stamping serial numbers onto weapons sometime and you'll understand how it can happen. (I know 'cause I suck at it! )

The 5 is a five.
