H & R Pardner Pump Shotgun for home defense

Post by wolfstein »

I was at a local convenience store a couple days ago and bought a scratch off. Low and behold I won $100. After cashing that ticket I bought another and won $50.00. So, I thought I would add a few bucks to that and get me an H & R Pardner Pump Shotgun. Walmart has them at a good price. Read several reviews that really raved about them. Nothing really special but will get the job done. Built like a tank.

I have one and I love it. It's durable and reliable. I have put a couple shells through it with no jams. Congratulations

Good home defense guns. A little heavy, but like they said, "built like a tank"!

I have a Hawk 870 clone, runs just fine, kids and the wife go through a lot of low-recoil 00buck with it!

I've heard great things about the Pardner shotguns. Supposedly, they're overbuilt and some even argue better than the 870s. Currently, my wife has an 870 and I have three 870s. It's really hard to justify another shotgun purchase, but if I was in the market, I'd definitely grab one. Hmmm.... Maybe at Christmas? :)

  I like a heavy shotgun.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

These clones use steel parts where Remington has some parts, notably the extractor, made out of MIM material and even plastic in the trigger groups.

Makers of defensive shotguns seem to overlook the fact that it's not always necessary to shoot someone with the gun when slamming it upside their heads will take care of the problem with less mess. You need a solidly built gun for that sort of thing, how is a dinky little plastic piece of junk going to stand up to that?

I've had one for years (with a field barrel) and shot a few thousand shells through it. No problems. The extra heft actually makes mine a good dove gun because it swings so naturally.

and it has less perceived recoil due to the added weight. Softens the blow from Buckshot. I've been eyeballing these for some time but I need another HD Shotgun like another hole in the head.

Another company that makes HD shotguns is the Savage. It is an Ithica 37 clone and is built heavy also. But not as heavy as the Pardner is. This is my HD shotgun choice....mainly price, I got it on a great sale.

But the best in that "price range" (IMO) is a Mossberg. Just a tiny bit more money, but it is much lighter to carry.

But they all do the same job if it's just home defense. I'll bet they all go "bang" for you.

Now if you want to "dress it all up" with those "extras", then the Mossberg is the one for you. You can get any of the extras for that shotgun, unlike the Savage.

The 870 dress up parts fit just fine, mines wearing a Hogue pistol grip and a five round sidesaddle right now, lol

Have you tried an 870 barrel? I was thinking of getting a Pardner as well. I have a pile of 870 gear, too.

You can use an 870 barrel but you have to make a spacer, the ring that holds the 870 barrel on is farther down towards the action than the clones are, but it doesn't have to be anything fancy, I saw one that was made from a chunk of PVC pipe, just needs to run from the ring up to the nut on the end of the magazine basically.
