If I was in the market for a .22 bolt action, this one would get a serious look.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

If you don't get a Ruger, look up the Marlin Model 25. You'll probably have to find it used but these .22's are superb.

I got an email from ruger announcing this rifle. It has definitely got me thinking that I need another .22

This thread reminds me to mention that when I went to the range Sunday afternoon, I carried one Mosin, and one 22 rifle. A rediculously fun Remington 341 bolt action 22 that I got a couple years ago. Made before 1940 and still functions flawlessly.

I'll be honest, I had the standard Ruger American in 30-06 caliber. Impulse buy. I hated the thing after I got it. Felt cheap, mag rattled around and I guess I'm just an old fashioned trigger kind of guy, because the marksman trigger felt wonky to me... I actually sold it to buy my Mosin 91/30

What was rattling? The mag, or the ammo inside the mag? And if the mag itself, was it only after loading? The one I looked at seemed tight enough, but it was empty of course.

It rattled empty or with ammo in it.. You could hold the rifle and put just a bit of light pressure on the mag and it had quite a bit of play. The ammo inside of the mag held tight. Lots of pressure on the spring. It just did not impress me after I brought it home and started inspecting it.. I did put 6 rounds thru it, but after that, I just clean and oiled it, put it up until I got it out to sell.

I've handled plenty & never had it rattle.

Mine could have been a one and only or one in a few.. At the time I bought mine, they had just come out so it might have been when they were working the bugs out of them.

I didn't expect to find one. They said they didn't think they would get any shipments till the end of next month. $269 plus tax.
