Did not know that. That i a reason i love this forum.. So much info
I was wrong. When I first saw the rifle, I thought it was a '36. Now that I look at it, it's a '38. I believe '36 was the last year for hex receivers on the Tula and the year they switched over to round receivers.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

1935, 1936, and I have seen 1937's too can be either be a hex or a round receiver so it seems. This is esecially true with the refurbs as they kind of got them mixed around a bit during reassembly after refurbishment. Had a bunch of them at one time that were all mixed around but sold them off with most other stuff like that. Price was right I couldn't say no. Bill
Tula had a split year in 1936, both round and hex at the same time, but a hex receiver can show up on any year Mosin as the Soviets, and Finn's never wasted a good receiver and would reuse them in new rifles.

The shotgun is just a cheap mossberg 500 that i got a real good deal on. and since its a second mossberg I wanted to have a "project" gun so i put a adjustable stock on it so the wifey could shoot it safer.. And the bluing was coming of so i did a cheap krylon job on it.. I need to tinker with things and there is no real collector value with a shotgun as there is with a milsurp..
