Proud of my wife's shooting ability

Post by wolfstein »

Since our outdoor range the "dirt pit" is basically flooded I have not been able to get out and shoot my Mosins with the new Lead Sled. So, I took my wife to the local indoor range to shoot my Savage model 64 and my Mossberg model 702 plinkster.
My wife will be 79 years old in October and this is only the 2nd time in her life she has handled or fired a rifle. The first time was a few weeks ago when we went to the same place.
We were using a $7.00 scope from Walmart at the range distance of 25 yards. I know this is no great shakes and you may say I can do that anytime or my kids can also, Maybe so, but I am proud of the results she showed for someone her age and lack of experience.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Don't get her ticked off at you or you are toast! :chuckles: :chuckles: Great work on her part.

The 702 is a great rifle, isn't it? I found one at Walmart a few months back for about $100 plus BG check and tax. They were going for twice that at gun shows! It was at the height of the "panic", and anything chambered in .22LR was almost impossible to find.

I took my wife to the range with it soon after, and she was hooked! She had never shot a rifle before. We blew through over 100 rounds in no time. I finally made her stop so I would have a decent .22LR supply left!

It shoots even the cheapest ammo, with no jams or misfires. I even found a 25-round mag for $27 at Academy not long ago, which works perfectly. It's not a 10-22, but at that price, who can complain? :D

Well, I am happy to see more women shooting, did you buy her a Mosin yet ? What are you waiting for her to take one of yours ? She is a good shot, did she learn or just a natural shooting. Either way I think you owe her a dinner for those targets. Good shooting! ;mywink;

I didn't see this post till now, but this is a great post. Only the second time shooting and she did so well. I am glad to hear she let herself try it. I can understand how proud you are of her. :P
