49 Tula Refurb, but a good one!

Post by OLD OUTLAW »

I have sent pics to a number of the nets SKS Gurus on this one. Concences says very, very late 49 after the design changes had been made.
It is a refurb., yes but a nice one. Notice this one is unusual because it still has its original bluing. Not common, most are BBQ painted at this stage of time.
All numbers are matching. But, stock has been replaced with a 1950 stock. Rare to find one like this one or worse, an absolute early original with spike bayonet.
But, no one passes on any 49 that I ever heard of. Got this from on Gun Brokers. Seller had no idea what he had. He listed opening bid of $275 and a BIN of
$375. I at first thought it was a scam. Took me nearly an hour to convince myself it was real. Hit the BIN. But it wasn't!
Enjoy the pics.

Man that is sweet. Very nice looking rifle Outlaw!

I've come to one conclusion...there's too many rifles and never enough cash!

Excellent buy :)

It is uncommon to find a '49 without the BBQ paint. And if you needed a first year SKS to fill out your collection, you may never find one again for under $400. That's a good buy!
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

I should have bought more of them when i bought my 1950, but at the time I thought $125 was a lot of money for one.

I remember when a guy had crates of the Yugo grenade launcher SK'S maybe 3 or 4 years ago at a Dallas gun show and was selling them for about 175.00 with all the accessories and I wish I had bought one. That was the day I bought my synthetic Winchester Defender from some guy for a hundred bucks. I should have offered to trade it right then for a SKS.

For some reason the wood on your deck 'morphed' into the stock on my monitor as I was looking at it. I'm thinking, "Damn, that's a weird looking stock" the monitor hiccupped and everything was right again. Talk about weird. Nice looking "Normal" rifle.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

No Sheepy Doggie! This one was so astounding I had her look at it with me and we talked about it. I told her what little I knew about any 49, especially
like Martin said was unusual due to the original bluing. She is the one that said "Then buy the damn thing." So I hit the BIN button.
I forget now who told me they looked in disbelief for about an hour and moved his mouse to finally hit the BIN when it disappeared from the screen then popped back up as sold. This was back in April late I think it was.

PS: Go get that pistol tomorrow morning. I hurried my bottom off driving it 30miles to a UPS Regional Center that would accept it. If you don't, no more cookie bisquits for you!

This stock is really nice. SO is the fact this rifle has original bluing instead of the BBQ paint. Not the usual variety. It's a keeper for sure.
Thank You!

Just a question, I've seen a few photos of '49 Russians that have an almost square shaped gas block, was yours possibly changed at refurb or is it just like the difference in an early '50 and late '50 SKS? Just curious.

OO, you say I'm the collector, look who's packin a '49 Russian. I gotta agree, Very nice wood :toast:

In 1949 the first production items had the 90 degree gas block, spike bayonet, and a latch cover pin that had a hole in it.
In very late 1949 modifications came out. 45 degree gas block and a blade bayonet. Mine has had a stock replacement, but it appears that is all.
I am fortunate to have found one in it's original bluing. Very uncommon to do so. Not about to ever let this one go.

Another thing Steve, next time I'm up in Iowa I'm bringing my airless sprayer, your deck needs a stain/paint job. You can leave your 49 Russian out there and I'll touch it up too.
