Ammo pouches..

Post by crwjr »

Just put my ammo pouches to good use today.. they are now holding believe it or not ammo :big shock: I cleaned out my hometown gunshop of his 7.62x54r surplus  one im not sure what it is, its got a steel uncoated case, and a fmj with silver paint at the tip :?: and the other is a soft tip with a silver uncoated case. I am sure they will both be very fun to shoot... any ideas on either one of them, the fmj came in a oil paper wrap, the other was in a white box.. :toast:

Silver paint on the tip denotes that it is lightball or 147gr surplus. The soft tip could be either 180 or 203 or something like that. would have to see the ammo to tell.

Your M91/30 or M44 will eat either type of ammo, the soft point stuff will be commercial stuff out of Russia, treat it all as if it was corrosive ( long standing trust issues with Russian made ammo being anything but corrosive) A quart of boiling water poured down the chamber and out the muzzle to wash away the corrosive salts before regular cleaning is all that need be done, oil the bore before storage.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

The FMJ tends to make great fireballs at dusk... fun stuff!

I've shot both, didn't notice much of a difference between the two besides the fireballs.

I keep five pouches strapped on a 91/30 strap with 100 or so rounds in it, for just in case. Robber, SITF, who knows? It's just some quick ammo for if I have an unfortunate moment. :vcool:

Jumperwire,

Please tell me your "go-to gun" is not a rifle that the Soviets abandoned as obsolete in the 1950s...... :D

I keep my ammo in GI surplus cans. What ammo I need to take to the range or the woods goes in a small canvas range bag, or in a US GI surplus butt pack.

Mosin ammo pouches aren't very practical things. I don't see any need to keep ammo on my belt at the range. On the shooting table, the pouches don't hold a practical amount of ammo, and they just get in the way.

Its actually the perfect choice. You don't have to worry about actually hitting your intruder. The shockwave from the 7.62X54R will take care of it. Plus, it will dust your shelves, vacuum your carpet and re-arrange your furniture for you all in one shot!

Plus kill the burglar that broke into the neighbor's house, who by the way doesn't own a firearm. See, not only good PR but a valuable community service. Unless you did it here, where the neighbor would complain about: 1. The noise. 2. The hole in their wall. 3. The blood on the carpet!

Now that is just funny! I can just see the look on a crack head's face when some unshaven guy comes out of the bedroom with a Mosin with a bayonet... Now in addition to all the things MN Fan says the Mosin HD rifle does, if it would clean my car, or at least if the shock wave would knock the dust off of it, I might make it my go to gun. For now, will let that be the shotgun. :)

If you follow the cleaning advice on here, the residual Windex does a nice job on the windows too.

Mosin Nagant. Perfect for when you have a home invader, and your neighbor 500 yards away does to.

You can always stick the bayonet thru a bedroom door or most dry wall, I might start sleeping with Mosin 44 next to the bed

If you can't risk a shot because the kids are in the way, and the bayonet is back under the bed, just turn the rifle around and beat the bad guy to death with the steel buttplate, that's what it's there for :)

The Mosin Nagant with bayonet is the perfect Rifle, Lance and War-Club all rolled into one handy unit. Three for one and at a price that is a fraction of an AR poodle shooter or an AK with it's minute of barn accuracy. Even if you miss with the first shot, the muzzle blast, shock wave and fireball will cause any burglar to decide that being deaf, knocked over and on fire is not worth stealing your stuff.
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

LOL!

To a non Mosin owner, I am sure the butt plate is just down right ugly. I could see the intruder as you raise the rifle with the butt plate in his direction.
