Musket or #11 Caps

I'm having a hard time finding either musket or #11 caps in my area. My TC Renegade .50 Cal can use either #11 or Musket with the right nipple installed. I've seen a couple of places online like Sportsman's Warehouse, but they are charging outrageous hazmat fees for shipping which I refuse to pay. My next effort will be to go to the LGS and try to order them. Any suggestions?

Musket caps are considerably larger than #11, they are typically used on big bore military muskets like the US Springfield rifle muskets of the States War era and before . A gun shop can order them, but you need to find out exactly what your rifle uses first.

What he was saying was that the Renegade can use either one, but you first have to install a special nipple designed for the musket caps. I have never had a bit of trouble with the number 11 caps. I got some recently at a local ammo store. The Remington #11 caps were also in stock the other day at a local Bass Pro. The 27.50 hazmat fee is not so bad if you order enough stuff to absorb it. Grabb you some powder, or get a sleeve of 10 cans of caps. Just think how long A thousand caps would last!
Grafs.com is stating that delivery will be a month out. Oh bullcorn.

They can't ship powder and caps in the same shipment. Each will require it's own shipment, up to 50 pounds of powder per haz mat fee, I am not sure how many caps, but probably many thousand.

I have both size nipples for the TC rifle. I prefer the musket caps. I'm going to make some calls, but think I know a trading post over the border in Alabama that has some black powder stuff. Most folks around here don't even shoot black powder, as the primitive season allows a hammer fired single shot using a cartridge of at least .35 Cal. That has most hunters using .45-70 or .35 Whelen single shots. Black powder is not readily available here.

They attainability of real black powder leave something to be desired. I can't find it any where in NC. I'm thinking about "rolling" my own.

If you can't find the caps you might try a Civil War reenactment group in your area as they will more than likely have some that could sell you until you can get to a supplier. I know our group orders 50lbs of powder at a time and a few thousand caps, but we are in California so it might be a bit of a drive for you.

I have a source to order real black powder from in Virginia, but like some have stated the hazmat will kill you on caps. Here's a couple contacts for you to get hold of, I'm sure they can help you out.

How far are you from Union City Tennessee? Dixie Gun Works has everything you need, they sell powder also but they do not ship powder, or at least they didn't the last time I checked.

I picked up extra musket caps a while back. I still have a ton of no11s but hardly ever use them. I use them on the pistols though cause you cant find no 10s here at all.

I have a few thousand 11's and musket caps, most of the time I am shooting the rock locks to save on hazmat fee's, flints are cheap.

I found a good source for #11 percussion caps in relatively nearby Prattville, Al at Bass Pro Shops. They have a good supply of CCI or Winchester on hand. I have a friend and co-worker planning a trip there this weekend and he is going to pick me up a small supply.
