This is my first single action revolver and my first black powder anything haha. I'm already in love with it. It feels great in hand, the sounds it makes when being cocked are heavenly, and the fit and finish of the revolver is quite nice. It is a colt 1851 navy replica made by pietta in italy. It is in 44cal so it is not a historically accurate chambering. It is the brass frame model and requires slightly reduced power loading but I don't see that being a problem at all.
The lockwork has a nice sound to it in these, mine have a distinctive sound all their own different even from the identical Pietta steel frame .44 Navy.
Hey that's a nice way to start. You know you could order the starter kit from Cabella's, and build on that. I have found over and over with my bp revolver that some of the most accurate loads are reduced ones.
Thanks guys! I love how it looks and sounds. The more I look it over the more impressed I am. Thanks for the tips bunksdad. I'll have to look at the kit on cabela's website. I can't wait to get it out and see how it does. Is there any quirks or tips too keep an eye out for with this design? I had it apart earlier to clean off the oil coating from being packaged. It came apart pretty easily. It was a little tight going back together but its all good. I can they weren't made for peeps with long lanky fingers haha. I have to twist my hand in a wierd way to cock the hammer one handed lol.
Awesome. I keep hearing horror stories of how hard black powder is to clean up. I figured it couldn't be much worse than cleaning a mosin after shooting corosive ammo. But I enjoy cleaning my firearms and I spend alot of time on them after shooting them anyway. Helps me get to know their working better.
