Stuck Nipples

On the Remington Old Army I bought yesterday the nipples are in terrible shape. I know getting them out will be a bear but before I embark on trying to remove them, should I remove them? Will it hurt the value of the revolver being a non shooter or having replacement parts more? I'll keep the originals of course. Thanks!

I removed the cylinder and soaked the nipples with PB Blaster for a week. Then I made sure I had the right size wrench. I originally thought I did but it didn't quite fit. DUH! I've found the ratchet ones work best. Used anti seize compound and they are easily removed for cleaning. Good luck!

I have one of IMA's Gehendra Martinis out in the shed being soaked daily with penetrating oil, been doing it for two weeks so far, will continue for five or six more ( yes, the rifle is that dirty) . Trick here is to let the oils work, take your time, and get a wrench that is the tightest fit possible.

If it's gonna be a wall hanger, I would just leave the old nipples on it.

I'd like to find a nipple "socket" that could be used with the small impact drive that I use on motorcycles for cases like this. One word of caution, there are a LOT of junk so-called "nipple wrenches" out there that will just spread and bugger up the nipple so be careful. Let it soak, there's no telling if the PO used anything on them when installed, hell, they might have used buffalo fat on them!

A buddy of mine has access to a commercial bolt removal spray that is a penetrating oil mixed with liquid nitrogen. It causes the stuck bolt to constrict and he swears by the stuff. If soaking it for a few weeks doesn't work I might give it a go.

See if you can get the name of the stuff and who makes it, that sounds like something that would work well on antique cars were using the hot wrench is not an option.

Will do JYD. It's similar to CRC Freeze-Off but "better". Image shack is working again so here is a picture of the revolver.
