Bought A Remington
After doing loads, scads, lots of research I believe I have indeed scored an original Remington New Army. ImageShack is not wanting to work so here is a link to lots of pic's of the Remington.. Reasons I think its real? It has the correct gain rifling, the screws are not metric, the correct inspectors marks are on the major parts (a tiny "A"),the address is correct on the barrel, and the serial numbers match on the barrel and under the grips. the only think not correct is at some point a front dovetail sight was added. This is not uncommon and a number of these revolvers have "aftermarket" front sights. I freely admit I could be wrong. I want to get it professional graded to be 100% sure. Anybody know a Remington New Army Expert? Thoughts or questions? Thanks!

August of 1863 I believe. Just took it completely apart and man is it dirty!

Re: Bought A Remington
You could try and contact Remington directly, it looks like the real deal but I am no expert on 1858's.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Oops! It was made in January of 1863. 150 years old... I wish the ol' girl could talk.

Looks like you may of got the real thing, or some one went way out of there way to make it look real.
Hope is real, let us know when you find out.

Re: Bought A Remington
The fakers rarely go so far as to apply the Remington name and address. When they do go that far the fake is worth at least twice to three times what he paid to the reenactors.

I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination , but it sure looks authentic to me and I hope it is. Every one deserves a break once and a while.
Good luck iwuzwhatiwuz.

Yup, there's no doubt its the real deal. And just today I received a Pietta New Model Army reproduction from Cabalas'
. I am sending the original off to get it's nipples removed while preserving them. I am really blessed to find the original at such a low price. I could never afford a Civil war used weapon otherwise.
