My New M1 Garand from the CMP

Post by A J »

Hey guys, here's my new (used) M1 Garand. It's an H&R service grade. Muzzle erosion = 1, Throat erosion = 2. I think the stock is birch.

I specifically didn't make any special requests of the CMP and just let them send me whatever. I'm extremely happy with the rifle I received and it looks almost brand new. I'll learn to take it apart and carefully clean it before I take it the range as I've never even fired one of these before.

Very nice CMP Garand. Is that one of the new CMP stocks on it? One thing for sure, that is one very clean service grade!

Congratulations!!! :Drool1:

They are a breeze to field strip and clean. Of all my milsurp's, I like shooting my Garand the most!

Thanks. Yes, it's a new stock. I'm pretty sure it's birch. Many of the Garand collectors actually prefer the old stocks, but I'm perfectly content with a new birch one. I might even order a second. I feel the urge!

I think it was built in January 1955. CMP rebuilds these rifles, so there's no telling where some of the parts came from. It's an H&R rifle but it has a number of parts marked "SA" for Springfield Armory, I think. I haven't yet fired it but it's very solid with no rattles.

Liked it so much I ordered a second one a couple weeks ago. I'm a very bad man! :)
