Another gun show Westinghouse

Found this old girl at the show this morning. Besides just being cool cuz its a Westinghouse , a few other things caught my eye. Its filthy, I mean nasty. Bolt number matches . Unnumbered buttplate and floorplate. No SA markings that I can find and the rear site graduations haven't been redone. It's filthy , did I say that already ? No handguard , but I guess you cant have everything. The bore looks to be in great shape for its age. Its had it's share of stock repairs but feels solid. Gonna commence to giving it a long overdue cleaning and will post some good pics. Here are some before shots.....

I'm envious; absolutely envious. I want a NEW or Remington M91 so bad, it hurts to see this... :Drool1: :Drool1: :Drool1:

The bolt is matched on the knob and not the base of the bolt using the last four of the serial number and I believe that is Finnish in nature. Congrats a nice one for sure! Bill :)

Sling hangers and bolt serial are Finn, some Finn rifles did not get SA stamped, it's been known to happen. Nice find :)

Cool! What letter is on top of the receiver tang? M, H, or E?

I didn't do too bad, although not as good as I did on my other . I'm kinda kicking myself though. I made a decision that I wasnt going to have more than one example of any given rifle, and I just purchased a N.E.W. 2 weeks back. Makes it hard to save for an Rguns sniper when I have these moments of weakness.

But do you truely have two examples of the same rifle? They are NEWs yes, and dated 1915, but there are curved logos, straight logos, Fox marked, US marked....ahhh mositis is a vicious thing. :D

Question from a newbie... Is there a known meaning to the "M, H, or E" that Homer2 asked about? Mine has what looks like a "C".

The letters Homer asked about denote which plant the rifle was assembled at.

I'd like to see a pic. Other marks appear, but there should be an arrow connected to the side of the letter to indicate the factory code. M is the Meriden, CT plant, H is the Chicopee Falls, Mass Hill Plant, and E is the East Springfield, Mass plant. All Westinghouse parts have a letter with an arrow indicating which plant or one of the many sub contractors who made it.

Thanks for that! Interesting. I did not know they were made in all those places.

I tried taking a pic but my old camera is not much better than my old eyes. It comes out just a smudge. I don't see an arrow. Just a circle with what looks like a "C" inside. Probably another mark. Next time I clean it I'll give it a close look all over. I don't suppose there are other places they'd stamp it for that?

This one was a gun show find also. Bought it from a really nice collector fellow. I saw the "NEW" on the barrel and asked if I could pick it up, and he said, "Sure. Do you know what that is?" "Sold!" :D As I left I went to thank him again, and he said there had been bunches of people asking after the gun.

Coming up on 100 years old. They are very cool things.
